anyone know steps you would need to take in trying to get a gas well that was capped in the 80's back in production. I do not know many details about why it was capped. it is in Winn Parish in Central Louisiana

What exactly do you mean "steps"? Are you trying to do this yourself or something? Very simply, you would have to recomplete the well. Based on your question, I think you might be oversimplifying the process. It's not like opening a wine bottle that had the cork shoved back in it.

It could be almost anything from drilling a whole new well to simple wireline cleaning, depending upon the condition of the well bore when it was abandoned 20 to 25 years ago. If casing was set and the well perforated, but was shut in because no pipeline was nearby, then probably just remove the temporary plug, clean out the hole, maybe some acidizing and then start producing. If there was no pipe set in the hole before it was abandoned, you may not even have a well bore anymore and you would probably have to twin the hole. Or it could be something in between.

If the property is leased, you contact the current lessee. If it's not leased, you might see if any oil companies are active in the area and contact one of them.

With the gas well activity currently going on in that part of Louisiana, it is unlikely that there is any econimic feasibility to what you are proposing....if it were feasible, folks would be beating down your door....
