Been thinking about getting one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. Will use for gas. I also use a Chase Freedom and Discover It for rotating 5% cash back. Wanted to take a moment and brag on the excellent service from PenFed. Instant approval. Super easy to open account and apply. I am a fan.

I have that card also

Only use it for gas, and that's only if I'm not getting gas at Costco

What makes it such a good gas card? I'm in the market for a new gas card? Current job has me driving almost 5k miles a month. Yes, I do get reimbursed for use of my vehicle.

Unlimited 5% cash back on gas purchases

It's automatically credited to your statement every month. It's more like a 5% discount in a sense. And I'm pretty certain there is no annual fee for the card. Just to have to join penfed

It is actually 3% with a $25 annual fee (waived 1st year)unless you have one of following services, then you qualify for 5% and no annual fee.

Qualify for Plus Cash Rewards by opening up one of the following:
•Active checking account with direct deposit ($250 min.)
•Equity Loan or Equity Line of Credit

•Money Market Certificate or IRA Certificate
•Thrifty Credit Service

•Mortgage
•Personal Line of Credit

•Installment loan
•Money Market Savings Accounts

Accounts earning 3% on gas purchases at the pump will be evaluated on a monthly basis to determine if a qualifying product exists. Accounts with qualifying products will be upgraded within 90 days of the evaluation date so that 5% is earned on gas purchases at the pump. New accounts may take up to 90 days from the date of the new account to be upgraded.

Damn, that's new

I do have my truck financed with them so maybe that qualifies for the plus version, or maybe I'm just grandfathered in.

If I were only getting 3%, id stick with the blue cash preferred from Amex and not have a card only for gas

I live in a pretty rural area and it seems like very few business accept AMEX around here

Thats odd

Pretty much all of the gas station chains accept it outside of racetrack/raceway

Amex isn't my primary card anymore but I found that 9/10 places I attempted to use it at accepted it

PenFed is awesome. I found out about them on here 4 years ago and have been a fan ever since. Their loan process is pretty easy as well.

I joined before the annual fee and haven't signed anything new. Will I still be popped with the fee?

I wouldn't think so ... I'm having "buyer's remorse" about getting the card now
