Pay them off in a lump sum that's the only way I am aware. When they put you in default the collection fees begin spiraling upward quickly.

Of course, they would have loved for me to enter into their "credit recovery" option. DO NOT DO THIS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. It is basically a "pay for delete plan" that takes the negative treatment off your credit report but doesn't do shite for your balance while you are in the plan.

Yes, it was a settlement. But believe me I paid principal plus interest. But if I had resumed paying on an installment basis I would have been, essentially, financing a shitload of collection fees which was not tolerable.
