Opened up an E*Trade account and ordered some checks.
They arrive today in an unsealed envelope in a window envelope with no cover letter.
So it was clear to any person who wanted to steal or copy checks, that a checkbook was in the envelope.
When I say window envelop, I'm not talking just the address. The window covered about half of the envelope.
Who thought this was a brilliant idea? Can someone please fire them now?!
Doesn't help that the damn things arrived in an open envelope so now I have to cancel the things in case someone did steal the info. Might be posting in a few months about my issues with identity theft!

Why did you request checks to start with? All kinds of risks with that, just do it online.

Not sure. No real reason. You are correct I should just transfer online as needed. Told them not to send new checks.
Either way, still stupid to send them in a window envelope.

True, but ultimately that's their problem since they will indemnify you.
I ordered a checkbook of 100 checks five years ago. I still have just over 80 left, and haven't written one from that stack for the past 2-3 years.

Yeah. I just checked off the send checks so I would have some for an emergency.
Almost never use checks but, I wouldn't want to need one and not have one.
