Just checked my score I get with my bank and it said a derogatory mark has been filed. That's some BS. I've always prided myself on being good about keeping on top of my shite and I don't believe the mark to be legitimate.

Anyway, Any advice on going about finding what the mark is for and how do I get them to reverse? I know they'll only do it if error is show .

Ask the credit reporting agencies. You're legally entitled to a free report from each of the Big Three once a year.

A derogatory remark can mean any number of things. Is this one of those monthly scores that come on a credit card statement, or were you applying for credit and a report was pulled?

In any event you need to get your hands on a copy of your credit report and check it out. Once you figure out what exactly the issue is, you can try to get it fixed, if it was in error.

Good luck. This can be a very daunting process.

Ha. I think I have it. Medical bill to a doctor I've never heard of in my hometown dated days after I moved away. I believe they must have got my father and I confused. I don't know how but I've never been to an anthestiologist and there's no record of any appointment with my health insurance.

Now it's just about fixing it!

Get your three reports from annualcreditreport.com

Each one that has the derogatory remark, file a claim against. You can do this electronically on each of the three's website, or by mail. They have thirty days to investigate with the people who reported it, if they dont reply and say that it is legitimate it is whiped off. I had a similar incident where my father and I's credit was mixed because of same name. Hospital and dr bills, mainly. What I did was call the collection agency and tell them the deal, and they took care of it immediately. One collection agency was a small, local one in my home town, it was easy. The other was a larger agency out of Dallas, who couldnt even find the file, but promised to have the mark removed, and they followed through. Your particular situation should be pretty similar.
