Real estate.

Or whatever business someone wants to choose and has a passion for, that's fine. But building a multi-million dollar net worth, simply by being being a wage slave, ain't going to happen for most people. As per your example, the contributions and the necessary rates of return are overly lofty.

But with a well thought out and well managed real estate portfolio, you can get there. And you won't have to eat beans and rice four times a week along the way.

This line of thought always perplexes me. Having a very short time on this Earth, with each passing day bringing the end closer and closer, and all you can think of spending your time doing is working?

I enjoy many hobbies and other things, but I like my job and don't hesitate to get up and go to work in the morning. I get to work on solving complex problems each and every day, which I thoroughly enjoy. The thought of retiring only to sit around the house majority of the time watching tv, or looking forward to cutting the grass is not something I look forward to. This is what majority of the retired people I know can afford to do, they aren't out there traveling the world, hunting/fishing, or doing other interesting things 6 months per year.

yeah, i plan to retire by 50 and I will not sit around. I will have volunteer gigs and travel extensively. Plus go bird watching, hiking, working out, and really just relaxing.

These things are all great if they interest you since they all cost next to nothing, I tend to enjoy things that cost money.
