Depending upon with CPA and/or small firm I select, will (or should) this influence which accounting software I should choose? Or will each have an interface that allows for integration into whatever platform they are using?
100 percent of CPAs are going to know how to deal with Quickbooks, I'd say 50% at this point have dealt with Xero and maybe 20% have dealt with Freshbooks. But both of those are real simple to learn and like QB, they bend over backwards to help CPAs with training and whatnot.
They all have their pluses and minuses. You should be able to demo any of them... play around and see what you like.

If you go with QB (you should) don't get the online version.....total shite
So up until about a year ago, I would have agreed with you. QB online was lower than dogshit. I would not accept any client that used it.
But I guess after a few years of Xero and other startups beating their brains in with cloud accounting, Intuit finally realized what was happening, and have been doing a complete reboot of QB Online. I now have 4 clients who use it, and I personally use it ( I get a free account) for a nonprofit that I am treasurer of.
I'm still not recommending it - if you want cloud based, I send you to Xero. But it has improved to the point where at least it's usable now.
If you haven't looked at it lately take a second look. Maybe in a year or two, it will actually give the others a run for their money.

I'd go swizznet for QB hosting via cloud

That's a very good option.
I've noticed some people who still aren't tech savvy don't really understand how that works.
They want all online or no online.
If you have someone with a bit of tech sense, that is a great solution. No doubt.
