Considering starting up my own business. Need some advice

I apologize if this is the wrong board. Seems like the most fitting to come for advice on the subject. I'm considering starting up a small business in the state of Louisiana. I plan to have a mixture of seasonal/hourly employees and 1-2 salaried individuals depending on growth. The "bones" are already in place. This would be a horticulture business and is something my family has done for years on a residential level but haven't had the capability to grow it into the commercial sector.
I've heard positives and negatives (mostly negatives) about taking out a loan to start a business. I would probably be looking to take out a relatively small 10-12k (maybe less) loan or fund the start-up myself, but i'm not sure I want that much financial liability in case this thing crashes and burns.
I plan to handle the marketing, website domain (if it gets to that point), pay, and logistics of everything.
Any advice on DOT regulations for small commercial trucks, workers' comp for seasonal/hourly employees and salaried, liability insurance, taxes, etc.
I'm going into this very green from a business ownership standpoint so any and all advice is welcomed.
TIA

Liability insurance won't be more than 1k
Workers comp may be complex, as seasonal employees go, but it's all based on payroll
DOT regulations are nominal, just make sure anybody driving has a clean record to keep the commercial insurance cheap.
This be a separate company than the one already in place?

quote:it shouldn't be too complex for such a small business. a big company like LWCC doesn't GAS. at that level everybody underreports payroll or flat-out lies.
Workers comp may be complex
ETA but you might get audited but you probably know more about this than me

I started a muuuuuch smaller business in July of this year and my total startup costs were less than $2,500 or so all in. I'm not much help but I will say that Liability insurance was incredibly cheap for a large amount of coverage. If you don't have someone in mind let me know and I can recommend my guy.

Do you have a business plan for the expansion? I'd suggest a line of credit. You use what you need and it's reusable as ou pay it down. Get more than you think you need. Business expansions eat up capital.
