Just me and no family? Assuming no loans to pay off, sure.

That's what they make in 9 months, not a year.

Bought a house and the wife and I managed to live off of right around that for several years.

Managed house, cars, pets and vacations.

With that and getting group health on family and a lifetime vested retirement after 20 years and only working about 7.5 months (considering holidays)........YES

And considering many are married so it is a 2nd income...YES again

And in the summers I would go to school for my masters which automatically gets you higher pay.

I could live just fine off that. In fact, I live on 45k a year just fine. I'm throwing a shite ton into savings getting ready for my next big move.

Which is bull crap IMO. Teachers should be paid more.

Many teachers plan and do other school related activities during their summer periods for essentially no pay.

Teachers can't just write up one lesson plan and use it for 20 years. Teaching standards, guidance change all the time, requiring teachers to construct all new lesson plans to meet those new standards. A lot of this is done over the summer when the teacher is not at school.

This is a load of crap. And my fiancee is pursuing her Master in elementary ed right now, and her mom and stepdad are both teachers; so you know I don't have a bias against teachers.

Its more like 10 months a year.

I know a teacher that taught at the Woodlands high school and she would make bank tutoring on the side. Charge like 50-75 bucks an hour.

Considering the benefits package they get, easily. And btw teachers in VA make considerably more than that.
