The jeweler will give you more credit than a cash sale, and then you can sell a Rolex for closer to the value.

That’s a damn good idea.

I’d also get at least one quote ASAP and slap it up on eBay for slightly more than that for a month or two. You never know.

That's a damn good idea. I actually planned on going by the place where I bought it tomorrow so I might see what I can do. I rarely wear a watch (I only have 1 actually & wear it maybe 3 times a year ) so if I can't get a Rolex out of it, what other brand should I be on the lookout for?

Not sure about men's watches, but if you are just looking to switch it to something that will hold its value better than a wedding ring, I'd suggest looking into Cartier love bracelets. At the request of my wife I've been casually keeping an eye on the new and used market for like a decade now and those things are never available at any sort of discount.

Haven’t read entire thread, but a couple of things:

Another site that deals in these sorts of transactions is worthy.com. Not sure if that is something you’d be willing to deal with or not, but it’s may want to check it out.

Also, if there are plans for marriage in the future, why not see about keeping the diamond and just selling the bands? You could always re-set the diamond in a new band at a later time.

Good luck with the diamond.

I just laughed at myself, during the process both my wife and I could've told you everything in the world about her diamond and setting....I bet you neither of us could get two facts about her stone right now. I know I could not and I probably studied up on them more than her.

We have her old set from her first short lived marriage in my gun safe. Never really thought about getting rid of it, but maybe we should.
