What websites would you recommend for investing in some stocks by myself, rather than have someone else manage my investments?

I use TD Ameritrade, but you might like Trade King, Scottrade or Fidelity b/c they are a few dollars cheaper (per trade), I like the no hidden fees...
Good Luck,

I just registered last week with TradeKing. My funds cleared today, so I start tomorrow. I chose it after reading the following review in a blog called online broker review:
LINK
Just in case my link doesn't work, the site is onlinebrokerreview.blogspot.com. From that main page, click on the overall recommendations to cut to the chase. Under the categories listed to the right, you can click on the names of different brokerages and get a breakdown of his grade for that category.
At least one other review I saw recommended Scottrade.
What sold me was that customer service is supposed to be very helpful at TradeKing, which is good for me because I don't know anything; and he rated everything from above average to good in the other categories.
The fees are important to assess. I'm not starting with much, and won't be trading all day everyday so that also made TradeKing a good choice for me, so they won't ding me with inactivity fees, and the trades are cheap.
After poking around on the site for a couple days (not trading yet), the tools don't seem that useful to me, and I have more questions than answers. Right now, I like the information I see better on msn's money section. (From msn.com, go to the bottom right of the page, click "money" section. From there you can start entering stock symbols, and doing research.) You can also find a lot of data at thestreet.com, yahoo and google have sections with financial info, investors.com (investors business daily), among others.
Since I don't have any real experience, that is the best I can do to help you.
It might be a good idea to try a couple more google searches, like "best online broker" or "best online broker for stock trading", etc. and see if you can come up with more blogs or reviews.
oh yeah... www.aaii.com is a good not for profit site for investors to learn about investing.
good luck!

I used to play around with Zecco since I didn't have a lot of money to toss around.
Last time I traded, it cost around $9 a transaction.
The only problem that I have heard from other users was the amount of time to get a sell in (or buy) in...

I used Scottrade and never have had a problem, no hidden fees, and $7 trades.
