Looking at buying a house soon. It would be my 1st. What are some good subdivisions to look at? I think I need to be around $250,000.

What kind of considerations do you have?

I would say Jefferson Terrace or Fairhill if you want to be in Baton Rouge.

Thanks
I'm single and will probably not plan on this being my final house. So would like to find something that wouldn't be too hard to rent or sell later. I wouldn't mind if it had some perks like a community fitness center, pool, tennis court, etc.. but those may be out of my price range, lol. I was generally just looking for the best deal in a relatively upscale neighborhood. How much do owners typically come off list price?

Cant go wrong with Southdowns area, if want older.
Oak Hills, Jeff Terrace, Hickory Ridge.
Those 2 newer subs on south end of Oneal
Just stay south of I-12.

Look at condos. You'll get the amenities and you won't be screwing around with yard maintenance.

And then you'll be stuck with something impossible to sell.

I definitely wouldn't go to southdowns area. I know people on here rave about them but those have to be some of the most overpriced houses in the US.
I would also add magnolia pointe to your options. It seems to be a nice subdivision right off of staring.

if it were me, i'd look at capital heights. lots of good starter homes for less with a great resell value.

You can get a lot of house for that in Tara. Solid neighborhood, convenient to everything for a single guy, very low crime.
Avoid Broadmoor.

For a single guy, I'd say one of the neighborhoods surrounding LSU or downtown.
Southdowns; a few streets in the Garden District where you may be able to squeeze that price out of someone; perhaps even Riverbend Landing.
Maybe even a townhouse/condo on Jefferson.
I don't know why anyone single and unmarried would want to live at the end of Bluebonnet. Most people I know who live out that way are newly-married, wannabe yuppies.

If you want to be towards the back of baton rouge, the villas at Jamestown on Perkins and picou look to be very nice for someone single. Some of the floor plans have a game room on the second floor. It's all about what you are looking for.

Jamestowne is where I'd go. It's going to be a convenient location once the new exit at Picou goes in.

Is this happening?

Capital heights is a good place to look. Small houses, small yards but the houses have retained their value ans are still selling unlike many places. Capital heights is close to BRCC and 5-10 minutes from LSU so renting is not an issue.
