"A random walk down Wall Street" is the most popular book rec on here for beginners.
Not really stock market related but I remember reading Millionaire Next Door when I was in HS and it has helped shape the way I view personal finances.

You've been given great suggestions thus far. To add, I thought The Intelligent Investor was a good book.

Intelligent investor is a great book but a rough read if you don't have a groundwork in finance. A Random Walk Down Wallstreet is a good one to start with. I'd also reccomend A Dummie's Guide to Finance. They seem to do a good job at breaking things down.
