You can change your insurance to add her as soon as you get married, contact your hr person or ask your boss for your group health agent's contact info. Let them know your problem and they will resolve, congrats on the wedding and baby!

$10k sounds about right for a standard birth.

We just had our first in September. All bills came in around 25k.

Normal birth with the exception of having NICU present for the birth process (this is necessary for nearly everything, if the baby makes the first poop in the womb they have to be there)

Looking over bills now online:
2555 - Gyno
19043 - hospital
600 - hospital pediatrician
350 - doc who caught the baby
300 - various lab work
2800 - epidural

Unless I am missing something, a payment plan would be no interest in a medical situation. At least all of the times I have had to do that, it was no interest.

Life changing event, she can enroll in insurance through the state (teachers) and/or you can modify your insurance. She needs to drop from her parents insurance and take insurance through the state so you out of pocket costs will be minimal.

Try to negotiate a cash price with all parties involved prior to the birth

My previous post outlines the amounts sent to my insurance company. We paid a lot less since we have an HSA account.

One we met our deductible of 3k they pay 90%. Still "out of pocket" around 5k. Which comes out of the HSA account.

AUjim is right on. Medicaid will cover her for the delivery. My wife and I had this conundrum. We were planning on getting married anyway when we found out we were going to be having a baby. We could have gotten legally married, and I could have added her to my work insurance, but there was a 2 month "probabtion" period in getting insurance through my new job. We would have been cutting it close since the due date was about 2 weeks shy of the end of my 2 month period. Long story short, we told the OB and his PA about it, we got to know them really well. They straight up told us to not get legally married until after the baby was born, and have medicaid cover the bill. I felt torn about it, and still kind of do due to my pride and never having taken a freebee in life, but like the OB said "You have been working at least part-time since you were 16 and you dont want to reclaim the money you put in the system?" So we stayed unmarried that way she could utilize the small hole in the system. Shortly after our daughter was born, we went ahead, got hitched, and the rest is history. But please call me trashy haha I really do not give 2 shits looking back on it. I've seen more corrupt/crooked bullshite in my days, and while I am a bit embarrassed about it, it allowed me to save up for all of our daughters check-ups, co-pays, and vaccines.
