I will price haggle on cars. Too much money to potentially save. Plus it is so easy to find out what the dealership paid for it. However I also understand that they are a business. I am fine with them making some money off me, but I also want to feel like I am getting a good deal.

I have also asked a mattress salesman how much he could come off the $900 mattress I was looking at. He said 10-15%. I know that he could've come off more but it was not worth the extra time or hassle, plus he needs to get paid also. I took the $100+ savings that took 15 seconds and I was happy. And he already had a lower price than everyone else.

Appliances I will research and get them to price match. Don't feel like haggling any more on that.

Hotels, food, and the $11 ticket that someone listed above is just overboard. People who love to play that game are either miserable or the cheapest bastards ever.

Also I agree on other posts not to lowball your mechanic or plumber. Don't ever piss off them or your barber or food server either. They can truly frick you up.

i have yet to come across a mechanic that will haggle. all those i have dealt with are so busy, they have no problem telling you to kiss off if you don't want to pay. that said, i research to try and get as honest of a mechanic as possible, and i gladly pay for quality service.

i haggle cars and other major purchases. i don't haggle food or items from a big box retailer. i have gotten deals on floor models/discontinued items, but i can usually find things i want for much cheaper than msrp. i also haggle my cable, internet, sat radio, etc.

you have to look at whether it is worth the time/effort. for something a few hundred or less, it is really not worth it for me to haggle. i bargain shop, and that saves me plenty. the higher up things go in price, the more i will haggle.

They usually have a 100% - 150% markup so I dont pay the first price presented

Went thru Popeyes last week near closing and offered $3.00 for all of the corn on the cobb they had left. Got 9 ears of corn for $3.00.
I do that kind of stuff all the time.
