Poking around at subscription sites, anyone here a big fan of The Fool? I remember when it was just a message board!

Things you like/don't like? Wins and losses?

Terrible. All they try to do is upsell you on shite. I canceled after a year because it was a waste of time.

OK, so what sources do you non-Fools like?

Seeking Alpha?

The Najarian brothers?

Wallstreet Zen?

Benzinga?

Watcha got?

I used to listen to their radio show on public radio on weekends and found it entertaining, but I could never understand why they loved Blockbuster, which anyone with sense knew was the equivalent of investing in an 8-track tape company.

I tried some sample newsletters and such but never paid for anything. It was all a little too much like the "Heart doctor says never eat this vegetable if you are ..."

I used them for years. First year with them I picked up several of their suggestions and got a return of 140 percent from Stock Advisor. I used some of their other services and got hammered.

What I liked about their services is they suggested many good stocks I never would have heard of left to my own devices. Some are winners and some are losers.

So it seems. They carry enough of a following that their recommendations become self fulfilling at least briefly.

I stick with Seeking Alpha because they offer a lot of detailed information and a forum attached to every article too.

Seeking Alpha?

I'm subscribed to this. I like it a lot. The articles by the avg Joes i don't care for so much but really like them for research and comparisons when looking for stocks to buy.

The comments forums associated with every article can be really helpful in rounding out the analysis.

I agree. Usually some good comments in the reply sections after the article.

no, I quickly realize they were more of a propaganda outfit designed to generate clicks, not actual analysis. I have seeking alpha. If you realize that 90% of that is just crowdsourced information but the quant rating is really quantitative data driven, its not bad for the cost. I am looking at Morningstar for the future maybe.

I have a paid membership to Seeking Alpha. I enjoy the analysis and the active comments from retail investors.

How does a seeking alpha subscription work? Aren't there like subs within subs? Like years ago you could read articles by someone you may like then they would have more content behind a paywall/membership.

I do remember the comments section after an article being my favorite part

I think I pay $30 a year or so, but yes it allows you access to more articles/content.

I paid for a MF subscription about two years ago. They had a strong recommendation to buy PINS. I bought at $60 and it tanked right after.

Needless to say I did not renew my subscription
