At the time of his hiring, I was concerned with his hiring because of the loss to Texas after blowing the large lead.

Except for one or maybe two years where the score wasn't clsoe to begin with, this has happened every time Texas has played Okie St. under Gundy. One year Gundy was up by close to 40 pts. at halftime and lost the game. Gundy has never beaten Texas. I may be wrong but I think Les one at least once.
Mack Brown beat Saban in the Cotton Bowl where we blew a lead.

I blame this all on Coach Saban. While the fans were crazy at the time for voicing their displeasure, what kind of person would put their children through this crud of sitting in a car listening to their old man getting ripped over the airways?

[quote]well you must love mediocracy

you of all people should know, you live with it every day. 51-15 in five seasons with an $EC and NatCham can in no way be construed as mediocracy. cut the crap morons, ryan perriloux and, before him, nick saban screwed LSU...not Les Miles. If perriloux stays and plays we are in the bcs mix for '08 and '09 and probably beat sabama the last three years. heisman caliber qb's don't grow on trees as we have seen with JL and JJ. Miles and LSU will be back...and when they are you same jerks will be jumping with both feet firmly planted on the bandwagon.

LSU football rules...LSU fans are fools.

his resume wasn't great, but we weren't going to give petrino the power he wanted, butch davis didn't really want the job, del rio & gruden were not leaving for the type of coach we (LSU) wanted, he was a good choice

This is how I recall it all happening. I don't recall a report of anyone other than Miles wanting the job. I don't recall reports of others being interviewed.

I do recall that the search and hiring happened very quickly and gave me the impression of being too hurried. At the time and on another message board, I expressed my opinion was that the search process was inferior because it was too hurried. My opinion was widely regarded as without merit of any kind, because Recruiting had to be gotten on with quickly.

So, I knew that we were taking a risk in hiring Coach Miles, and I realized that LSU was willing to take that risk in exchange for getting on with Recruiting.

I was not impressed with Coach Miles's resume back then. I did note that his main area of experience was with the Offensive Line, so, I expected that we'd never have anything but an outstanding and dominating O-Line under Coach Miles's tutelage.

Whether my expectation has been met or not is currently debatable.

LM recruited RP, he could have recruited other QB the last 4 years... was it in 2006 when he didn't even bring in a QB.. i may have my year wrong there, but i don't have time to research...
and Saban took a better job (in his eyes anyway)... get over it...

not Les Miles
LM HAS screwed LSU by not doing a better job with this team the last two years.... 1-7 against the top 4 teams on your schedule the last two years... baaaaad..

i know, which is why you have to bring in a couple new ones EVERY YEAR... and, you have to properly develop the ones you have....

Miles and LSU will be back
if he doesn't change, we'll be right back to where we've been the last two years, out of the SEC west hunt....

im an LSU fan, whether the team does well or not, I support them. I DON"T support Les Miles. I don't think he's a very good coach, and I don't think we will return to competing for the SEC west or NC until he is gone... Now i hope he proves me wrong, I just doubt he will....

I am sure that your feeble memory doesn't recall all the anti-Saban shite that came down from MSU fans when he hired him. How many of them said that they were glad he was gone, how many said we would regret the hire. And in your limited mentality, do you recall all the negatives said about Saban by LSU fans? How his record wasn't good enough for LSU, etc. I guess it is really easy for you people with mimited brain power to live in some fanstasy world.

That is all true ! There were many doubts about Saban when LSU hired him. But his resume was pretty good, because he had improved every team he was with in college. His NFL resume was pretty solid, too, recall he was a Def Coord in the NFL.

Saban's credentials were a bit better at the time of his hire than were Miles's.

I decided to withhold judgement and be optimistic. However I literally could not believe what I was seeing when he tried to call that timeout in his FIRST EVER GAME WITH US.

To say I was concerned about our new coach at that moment would be a huge understatement.

I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt and be optimistic but the bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think about him as a coach just gets worse and worse each year.

Please something happen to let us move on already.

A caller to Songy or Ott after the Monday night Tennessee debacle summed up my feelings best when we hired him and after that game.

"Man, we gave Skip money to go out and get filet mignon and he came back with pig lips."
