Regarding saban- Other than the "I wont leave" I don't know about his deception anywhere else and even in that occasion that was about a job (a personal thing).

I am not sure about Carroll -
I don't know much except the Bush gate and it would be naive if folks thought that the cars/apartments/hostesses didn't happen at all schools including ND.

Being LA maybe it went a bit too far and maybe Carroll is the kind who skirts the rules a lot more than other coaches

I don't care for the personal qualities of the HC as long as it doesn't affect the program - i.e. recruits are dissuaded by concerned parents and we don't get the top classes, we have NCAA investigations for any and all kinds of wrongdoings.

IF none of this happens and the coach is a killer then sure bring him on.

If the terms sound harsh - we can call it white lies, or sophistry or casuistry

In fact every one in a high profile job has to often use deceptive subtle persuasion - it is the nature of the beast.

Saban!

You people who try and justify Miles because he is a nice guy make me laugh. Like any of us have to live with any of these coaches.

All a coach needs to do is win, represent the University well(not thug U),and run a clean program. If he is a d!ck in getting the above done so be it.

Plus 95% of LSU fans would take Saban back tomorrow if they had the chance.

Too bad for your team but luckily LSU has a good coach and has an excellent rapport with the players and coaches and recruits well.

I would rather neither, but we're stuck with both.

Les' bullshite about the spike after the Ole Miss game brings up some major questions regarding his integrity.

Miles did the same "I'm not interested in the LSU job" thing before the Alamo Bowl and his team was crushed by tOSU. He left town a cpl of days later. Bottom line - ALL coaches lie.

Coaches are paid millions to win. It would be nice to find a good guy who wins big, but if I had to choose, I'll take an a-hole who wins big over a good guy who doesn't.

As long as he doesn't completely embarrass the school.

NCAA violations are an embarrassment to the school. That would be unacceptable.

Coaches leave programs all the time. I'll take a few championships in a short period over the alternative.

LSU's AD issued a public letter telling all fans the last two seasons are unacceptable. He understands the situation. You clearly don't.

I think the OP made a mistake by using two different folks as the example -

Saban (while being considered a liar, deceiver etc..) did all that regarding his job ( and I consider that a personal decision to better one's position in life) -
I can live with that in a coach - heck I don't think what he did was that immoral!

Carroll on the other hand is distinctly appearing as Stuart Little deserting the sinking USS Trojan. This is a different form of deception (he was always perceived as a cool guy who was friends with the players and could party with the hollywood folks) and it could possibly lead to sanctions for the program and that sucks and then you have to make the call

- on the one hand you can have 7-10 years of TOTAL DOMINANCE - with media slobbering all over you and being feared on the field, having each school worry when you talk to their recruit.

- the sanctions kick in after the reign

so it is worth it or not - each man decides differently

Can you point to the post where I said this?

You're making this thread about Carroll, which it isn't if you read the fricking question. There are many deceiving, lying football coaches not named Pete Carroll.
