Or does he get to at least Thanksgiving no matter the outcome of the games?

In order to fire him they'd have to have a backup plan. This is not a job that just anybody can do, and everyone we would want is currently employed......

I hope so. If he loses to state I hope that they fire him on the spot.

If he loses to state and we have 2 loses in the first 3 it sure feels like the early 90s again

so you think that if he loses any game from here on out, he's gone before the next game?

Yes I believe that. O would slide right in as interim coach. Also iif Cam left or had any issue with it Craig would move up to OC as well

ETA he needs to be 6-1 going into Miss/Bama games

He's probably on a short leash....and beating JSU was a decent win because they have quality players who transferred in but a loss to the Dawgs would be BAD!!! Even worse if the offense sputters. If he doesn't lose his job-the way he could recover would be to win out which means he would have to beat Bama and Ole Miss.....

if they fire him in-season, then they put in a interim to finish out and have a leg up on other big programs in starting backchannel talks with their top guys. they don't have to be unemployed for it to start unofficially

Wouldn't be surprised if the feelers have already been put out. I think they have. Alleva is also somewhat fighting for his job.

If you mean they would have to already know who they will hire to replace him and have that person on board and ready to sign, then no, they don't have to have that. Alabama didn't have that when they fired Shula, and they wound up with Saban. There are many other examples. Sure, it's nice to have the new coach already lined up when you fire the old one, but it's certainly not necessary.

If you know you have to get rid of a coach, there is absolutely no benefit in waiting to do it or announce it. Announcing it early in the season, on the other hand, gives LSU a head start on any other programs who will be searching for new coaches.

Craig? Why? He is coaching the WRs and "helping" with the QBs. What have we seen from those positions that indicates he would be a good OC, even as interim?

To avoid being fired (as in public announcement and he doesn't coach the rest of the season) before then, I doubt it. They probably won't announce the firing until at least sometime in November and even then they will likely let him finish out the season.

To avoid the decision being made to fire him (although not announced until later), yes, I agree he needs to be 6-1 going into those games, and he'd pretty much better be 8-1 coming out of them. In other words, he's done, as I doubt he'll meet either of those requirements.
