In another thread I linked an article on ESPN about them offering a 13 year old 7th grader. there wasn't a major stink made over it in 2010.

Wow what torture we better report this to the UN.
We offered a college scholly to this kid, what a horrible thing to do. I bet the kid suffers greatly from this offer. Besides the fact that he will get tons of offers by the time he can really commit to an offer. This early in the the recruiting game the significance of a an offer is of little consequence only the fact that we were his first college offer. Guess it was a slow news day.

This is no different then an attorney making an opening statement he knows will he will get punished for.. It's a first impression thing, this kid will remember that offer when the real recruitment starts up and it will be a big deal to him.
