With the LF7 auction..Paying college athletes

Seeing how much money this went for is pretty mind boggling. Over 100k for a jersey, signed by Fournette.
It kind of brings up the argument of paying players. LF7 can sign him name on something and bring in thousands of dollars. I understand that everything he signs wouldn't bring in 100k, but he could probably sign a few items and make 100k easily. Why doesn't the NCAA allow players to gain money off of their fame? Not every player would be as valuable as the next guy, but at least they would have a chance to earn some money. This would come at zero extra expense to the schools or the NCAA.
I understand it may open somewhat of a pandoras box because you would have your bigger schools, with boosters who can dish out some more extra cash. However, similar situations go on. Boosters still put the money into the schools for facilities, etc. that makes them more appealing to top recruits. This would be sort of the same thing, except the money would be able to be earned by each individual player.

The jersey brought 100k because it was for relief effort.
I can get an authenticated signed and framed future Hall of Famer Tom Brady jersey on ebay for $700.

I know that this jersey was for a relief. LF7 could sign 100 LSU items and easily make 100 dollars each. That's 10,000.

LF wants to be able to sell his autographed photo while in school. LSU has a booster/s lined up to pay him $500 a pop. Bama then has a booster/s lined up to pay him $700 a pop.An auto dealer wants to use his likeness to sell cars. Any clue what those fees would be? Whether it is already happening, this would make it legal. Too, look at all the outstanding individuals who were behind Johnny Football's autograph auctions. Do you really want that type of individual involved but legally? Pandora's Box doesn't come close to describing what would happen.

Because the NCAA wants to be the only ones to make money from their fame.
