Does Rivers transfer?

He's been kind of left out of all the discussions about "the future" here, especially when talking about our "revamped" offense, and our new OC.

He may or may not have been passed on the depth chart by Jennings, depending on what you read, or how you interpret spring practice and the spring game.

After Mett graduates, the fan base is looking for Jennings and Harris to compete to be our version of the next Johnny Football, with Rettig standing tall as the pro style QB competing for playing time.

So where does Rivers stand in all this?

Jennings will be a sophomore at most when Mett leaves and could be a redshirt freshman. I wouldn't write Rivers starting one year off completely. lol

And who redshirts?
And who holds the clipboard?

Unless Rivers can convince the WRs to catch his passes & he has a cannon that we don't know about, he will be starting at McNeese in 2014.

I don't think he transfers. Maybe Rettig after Harris gets here. Hopefully none.

PASSING: Purple-Anth. Jennings 8-21-0-98; Hayden Rettig 0-4-0-0; Brad Kragthorpe 0-1-1-0. White-Z.
Mettenberger 12-19-0-236; Stephen Rivers 7-10-0-185.

Stats from Spring game looked decent for Rivers. Yeah, Jennings may pass him, but that isn't a foregone conclusion.

I'm not writing off Rivers either. I'm hoping that we build up some decent halftime leads so that we get to see plenty of game time for both Rivers and Jennings. And as much as some people on the Rant would object, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2 QB system in 2014 with Rivers and Jennings swapping out.

Two QB system next year sounds very intriguing.

Jennings played the ones with a bunch of guys not playing in the secondary. And completed 8 passes. He's good, but still has a long way to go.

And Rivers played with the #1 offense against walk-on DB's.

LOL you obviously didn't watch any of the spring game if this is your defense. Rivers and Mett played against mostly walk ons. Rivers played against all walk ons or close to it.

Look I want Rivers to be the go to guy if Mett gets injured. Since he has the experience and timing of the WRs down, it's a safer choice than a true freshman.

Thing is, he loses his advantage next year and I think Jennings beats him out in the spring. I don't know how 7 Ons go, but I've seen on here that Mett has had a back injury/problems and Jennings has been starting in his place in the 7 Ons. Don't really know if that means anything though.

True, but Dwayne Thomas and Micah Eugene had great coverage on Boone and Wright almost the whole time. Thomas only gave up one big play but it was a beautiful throw that nobody could defend. That one throw has me sold on Jennings Nicest 35-40 yard throw I've seen in a while.

Chicken really should have an age limit about posting. This screams 15 year old.

Didn't we read this same thread about RP, Zack Lee, Liggins, Rettig, Jennings, Clausen, Gunner, etc.

Harris might not even be on the team 2 years from now, grades, injury, playing time, discipline, personal , etc

1. Rivers is like 6'8" or whatever

2. Rivers Brother is a NFL QB

3. Cam Cameron was an NFL Coordinator

What do you think?

I don't see how Rivers' situation next year is any different from Bolden's this year. Both could chase PT at a smaller school, but what's the point? Why not practice against the big boys, under a former NFL OC, and try to get on a practice squad somewhere after graduation?

Rivers was recruited as a back-up from day one, and I'm sure he knew the score. I don't think he ever starts, but I would be surprised to see him transfer unless asked to look around (which wouldn't surprise me either).
