Will our new hires help generate more sacks and turnovers?

I hope so. It's seemed like the D line couldn't get pressure on the QB for the past couple of seasons.

Since their titles both begin with the word Defense, I would assume that this is our objective

I certainly believe that it will. Steele and Orgeron seem to be aggressive, up in your face, pass rushing style coaches.

I often wondered what the hell Brick and Chavis were teaching our D-Linemen regarding pass rushing. They couldn't get off of a block for anything. I think we will see a lot more sacks and turnovers as a result of the new style.

Chavis's scheme had grown stale here. it was time for a change.

This is my thoughts when Chavis left.

Honestly, I'm most interested in us being more stout up the middle than we have been.

For the last couple of seasons, it sure has seemed a bit too easy to gouge us right up the gut. Now, yes, we loved to blame Welter for that one, but, DL played a part.

Coach O can't hurt in that area.

We were 56th in 2013 and 103rd in 2014 in the nation in sacks (or something very close to those numbers)

The timing is right for it to happen. More aggressive schemes and a ton of young talent maturing into grown men next couple of years. Travonte Valentine is going to create havoc up the middle along with Godchaux and Lacouture.

From what I've been told by a walk on defensive linemen, who will remain anonymous, Brick taught them to essentially play patty-cake with the offensive lineman's hands in order to get off of a block.

He described it as like a hand to hand combat, so that the OL hands are prevented from actually blocking them. The emphasis was not on playing with leverage or getting up the field to pass rush.

This sounds great and all, but when the hand games don't work, you have no momentum or leverage to get off of a block. Basically, it wasn't an aggressive nature of pass rush.
