Will Jake Latz be ready for the season opener?

I know in November that he apparently had a set-back and that he was seeking a third opinion. What was the result of that? And will he be ready for the season opener? Would be awful to have a guy with that much talent riding the pine again

I think he's supposed to be ready by April

He'll get more playing time than Travonte Valentine IMO...

Nah. Not even likely he plays again this season. If everything went perfectly it sounds like he could make an appearance toward the end...but with how his career has gone already I wouldn't expect it.
Nice to have a Friday/Saturday guy locked up already. But once again the question will be who our 3rd starter is. We tend to get bitten come tourney time because we run out of those guys. Hopefully Bain can step up for it.

At least I've met him and can confirm that Jake Latz exists.

I didn't get to see any fall ball, but judging from those who have, Riley Smith (JUCO transfer) is up to the job and is the best guess for Sunday starter. Weekend rotation will probably be:
Friday: Lange
Saturday: Poche
Sunday: Smith
Bain should be successful in the same long relief/extra starter role as last year.

Riley Smith is supposed to be pretty legit. He had 85 Ks in 79 innings in JUCO last year. Fastball in the low to mid 90s. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

What's Cole McKay's status? I figured he'd be a Sunday guy though PM may bring him along as a mid week guy first.

Latz pitched 11 scoreless innings this fall before the elbow problem shut him down again. He followed three doctors opinions to have surgery after opting against the surgery in the past. After the surgery, he was looking at approximately 5 months of rehab before being able to pitch. I think now that he has finally had the elbow repaired, he may be able to pitch effectively by the end of April. I really hope that he can contribute to the Tigers run to Omaha this season; He is a really good lefty.
