Once he gains about 5-10 more pounds ? I never really understood the dynamics of a pitcher growing into his frame and his velocity and speed increasing from it. Is it just a genetics thing or is it mostly from lifting weights ? Also Do bigger pitchers just naturally have an advantage of pitching faster stuff ?

Pounds have nothing to do with it. Mechanics has everything to do with it

I've always wanted to see a video explaining how Chapman throws 103-105. That's crazy.

In high school he topped out at 95 recorded, now he's firing in at 97. 100 is just a number, but certianly he has the mechanics and throwing motion to get it up close to 100 in a few years.

Seriously didn't know. I always hear scouts and so called experts saying more speed comes with increased size. I know mechanics are the majority of pitching but you're telling me with just mechanics it doesn't matter what size you are you can pitch that fast ?

It's hard to project these sorts of things, but if he can sit 97 with a wipeout breaking ball, he'll have a long career in the majors

Mechanics, having fast twitch-strong small muscles, having a strong core, and really exploding off your back side all correlates into having a high velocity.

In his prime, Tim lincecum touched 100 and he weighed about 175 soaking wet with boots on. It's all mechanics.

As a starter next year I doubt he will sit 97. He probably sit 92-95 and can reach back and grab 97 when he needs to. By the time he is in the pros that can change it at LSU that is probably where he will be at. He's not an 18 year old freshman either he is 20 years old. He's just a little more mature than most college freshmen.

So you're saying as a starter he'll hold back some on his fastballs?

Holding back is a bad way to describe it. He just isn't going 110% every pitch as a starter. If he did that, then either 1) he won't last long or 2) he will get hurt if he's not conditioned well enough. Example: We all know that Justin Verlander can throw upper 90s anytime he wants, but he sits comfortably around 92-95. It isn't "holding back." It's just pacing yourself.

Pretty much. Starters can't give max effort on every pitch and expect to go 7-8 innings. In critical spots they'll go max effort.

If gaining 5-10 pounds gets you to throw a 100mph heater, then the last couple of months should have me at least in the mid 110's...
