Nah. He will be the next Aria Gilbert. A tight end at Alabama with a decent but not spectacular career. He’ll get to the league where he won’t last long because he’s a selfish man child. He will still be a douche canoe and will forever be Tiger Bait!

Marcus Dupree was a monster. Gilbert has a lot of potential, but Dupree took over games as a freshman when they finally decided to start him. Different positions, but Dupree was on another level.

Not yet, but with the NCAA removing transfer restrictions this offseasons he's a gone pecan. I'd say more likely UGA than Bama, but I can't envision any future where he is wearing purple and gold next season.

Dupree was an insane talent. Think about Bo Herschel and Dupree all in the same era of cfb.

Correct.

Barry Switzer just had no idea how to relate to him, and Marcus, despite all of his accomplishments, felt unappreciated.

"The Best That Never Was" is one of ESPN's best 30 for 30 episodes. Well worth a watch.

I think the OP is thinking in terms of an elite talent that disappears from football.

I think the answer is “maybe” given that we don’t know what’s going on with him. But in terms of the “shock factor”, it wouldn’t be anything near Dupree. No knock on Gilbert, but Dupree was a generational talent. Dudes like Gilbert come along every couple years.

I don't know if that is true.
Would love to see Johnson throwing to Arik vs Ole Miss. Since the other freshmen WRs, Boutte and Moore, seemed to have learned their roles, it would be interesting to see Gilbert with more spacing.
Too bad he gave up too soon. Youth!
