2 and this year we will have maybe 4 at the most if lucky. So i guess 6 SEC wins next year will make you happy and Trent Johnson will be coach of the year.

I thought I recalled the consensus being that this season would be pretty bad.

i saw many saying Lsu would at least make NIT and go 8-8 in conference. And who expected all these blow-outs?

I thought that maybe we would have some trouble but I didn't think we would be blown out and lose to the likes of Nichols.

Exactly-I know we have Turner and Warren out right now but you would think we would compete a little more-players just don't seem to play for Johnson....I mean that beat down by 27 at home to Ole Miss was terrible.

The main problem with basketball this year is two fold:

1. The freshmen are not as good as everyone thought. I think that the three freshman guards (Derenbecker, Stringer, Turner) will all be good players, but none have proven to be the freshman difference maker that we thought.

2. The big men have been a huge disappointment. Storm Warren has been hurt but even before he was hurt he had regressed. Malcolm White has been the biggest disappointment of the season. We were sold a bill of goods that was just plain not true. He still has potential but he is a work in progress right now.

The reasons for optimism for next year are simple:

1. The three freshman guards will all be better next year. Stringer will hopefully learn his role and Derenbecker and Turner will be even better scorers on the court at the same time.

2. Johnny O'Bryant is a big time recruit that fills a big time need. He is 6'9" and can really run and jump. He fills the athleticism void that we are sorely missing and allows Ludwig to come off the bench and be a solid role player. O'Bryant is Trent's biggest recruit yet and its not even close.

3. Justin Hamilton, the transfer from Iowa State, will give us another big body to enter the rotation. He did start all 31 of Iowa St's games last season. He averaged 6.4 pts and 6 rebs a game in the Big 12 in 21.5 minutes a game.

This season has been a huge disappointment but I dont think that needs to temper the enthusiasm for next season.

I think Derenbecker and Turner are as advertised. Disappointed in Stringer though.

So true. White hustles and has not quit just not as productive as most thought.

I agree with all your points but still missing a true point guard in my opinion. Stringer is a 2 guard in a point guards body imo.

Besides Tac Minor, he may be the biggest disappointment in the recent history of LSU basketball. I'm trying to think of any other LSU basketball player that has been a bigger disappointment and I really can't.

Next year hinges on these two IMO. Unless Stringer can start making his own shot, we will have to play from the inside-out. Either that or hope someone steps up at the PG position.

This team is deff struggling this year but there are reasons for that. There was optimism but this team has had quite a few set backs.
1. Beau Spencer was dismissed off the team
2. KC Ross-Miller didn't qualify
3. Ralston Turner hasn't played a single SEC game and he is arguably the teams best player and was the leading scorer
4. Storm Warren has been hobbled almost the whole year. He's always been undersized but now he can barely run or jump which makes him almost a non-factor
5. Dennis Harris left the team
A team Like LSU can't withstand all those setbacks we don't have depth like that yet.

Reason for optimism for next year:
1. Stringer, Turner, Derenbecker will all be more seasoned and had a year to develop. Look at Garret Green for example he has improved tremendously being healthy helps for sure.
2. Dotson and Warren will be older and wiser and hopefully healthier and leaders
3. O'Bryant will be here
This team should be much better if all pieces comeback and arrive as planned and are healthy. I'm still undecided on TJ I think he needs a chance to get his players in here and develop them. He's had alot of adversity to deal with this year. I hope the future is bright for the program and I believe it is.

I might get blasted for this comment, but as I have said since this summer... losing Bo hurt this team more than anything. He would have gone back to the role he played his Sophomore year, instead of carrying the scoring burden. Stringer would be a shooter (2), and turnovers would be drastically down.

Just the points off of turnovers last night would've made last night a 4 point game instead of a 22 pooint game

We have a really young team. 4 Freshmen, 5 Sophomores, 4 Juniors, and 0 Seniors... everyone on this team is returning next season. We don't recruit one and dones like a lot of teams in major conferences, at least not yet. I think Johnson's trying to do it the old fashion way. Recruiting players and letting them mature as a team. Not to mention Johnny O'Bryant is apparently a monster. Yes we'll be better next season, but it'll take a couple years to get to where we want as a team. It doesn't happen over night

Getting rid of Bo for this season was the right move, IMO. Bo was not going to go back to a distributor role for a team full of freshman. It just wasn't going to happen, especially with him and Trent butting heads. However, we really need a PG going forward.
