Not obssesed with Bama but was having a conversation with fellow worker about this. Seems as though Alabama is able to keep more underclassmen than LSU. What is the opinion of the board as to why this happens? I think it has to do with the coaching at LSU. Mainly Les Miles. Saban is able to convince his players to come back for their Sr season and improve draft stock and the chance to win a NC. I think when Les Miles was coach, players could see that they were not going to improve draft stock much and chance of winning NC was there, but injury didnt outweigh the chance. They could sense Les Miles would sooner or later screw something up, even though they loved him as coach, and took the early money and ran. This has become the biggest advantage between the two teams. The talent is about the same for both teams because LSU has just as many players in the NFL as Alabama. Have to give it to Saban, his system and what he is selling to the players is working. Just seems that we lose more players that get drafted in the 3rd thru 5th rounds than Bama, that if came back could be drafted much higher the following year. If guaranteed 1st or 2nd round, sure, go make that money.

They have better depth at key positions, meaning new guys have to wait their turn to play.

Compare that to us seemingly always needing to hit on at least one major recruit at a position of need each class to plug in holes.

Guys wouldn't be leaving for the NFL as juniors if they didn't play until their junior year and as a reserve at that, with the understanding that they'd be first in line to start as seniors.

That was his answer and I dont disagree with that assesment either. I am looking more at guys like Malachi Dupre and such. A player like him if at Alabama, seem to come back. I think we can agree that he underachieved the last year. Could improve his stock.

Malachi is a bad example. Yes, he could improve his stock but his stock could also drop if Drake Davis or Dee Anderson break into the lineup and Chark locks down the #1 spot.

I think the way he was targeted in the bowl game was the coaching staff's way of trying to drive up his value and subtly encourage him to enter the draft.

That's just my theory, and I cannot prove or substantiate it.

Maybe so but it seems like a few years ago, we lost a player as a junior and that player didnt even get drafted. Something like this would never happen at Bama.

You are correct. He had a great game in the bowl. Just think that the bowl showed how good he could be. If he plays like that a whole season next year if he came back could mean millions. Dont think off of one game he improved his draft stock. But this is not just about him. Its multiple players that this happens to. Players that start at LSU but could improve their stock just always leave.

The talent at LSU and Bama is not the same or equal. They have been recruiting at an unheard of level. They're depth in the front seven is unmatched.

A big reason they leave early after they are eligible to leave is hardship economics. For the most part they are desperate to leave and hope for the big payday i opportunity in NFL and roll dice with it to forgo their Senior Year, and in some cases graduate.
LSU players hit the field earlier to play and players at Alabama wait longer to play, but have a better opportunity to win NC and get a ring in the process IMO.

For several years, Miles and company used the prospect of getting to the NFL in 3 years as a selling tool for recruitment. I think that planted the idea of leaving early into the players' minds even before stepping onto campus.

Bama players don't want to take the pay cut by going to the NFL.

I keep telling people this and they wont listen. They have more players with a 1st rd grade, in their front 7, than lsu's entire team.

Keep lying to yourself if you want. You clearly havent been paying attention to our last 2 draft classes. Their 2016 draft class alone was almost as big as our last 2 draft classes combined.
Also just using nfl as a measurement of talent is flawed. Tim tebow doesnt count as a nfl player for Florida but id say he was a good player.

This right here.

The argument that LSU is just as talented as Bama needs to die and die quickly. This thought process causes a lot of heartache with the fanbase because they believe LSU is equal to Bama and with the right coach we can match them. False. Bama is on another level recruiting and talent wise. Their depth is insane.

Not saying that we aren't talented because we are extremely talented. But they are in another universe that no one in college football can match.

Can't prove it but I believe that Saban tells them if they go pro he will call all the clubs and bad mouth them and they will be drafted a lot lower or not at all. And if they go public with this he will make sure that they never play pro ball.

IMO, it's also a primary reason we're able to recruit at the same level. Can spin this to a positive for incoming players.

With Bama's recent success and the fact that we go after the same players, we need every angle we can get.
