Explain to me how not getting one yard at the 7 yard line leads to a field goal worth more than a field goal kicked at the 22 yard line (where we never gained a yard).

Without the personal foul we could have run the same 3 plays but burned most of the clock. That's why it mattered.

well, you see the type posters that are spewing this garbage right. Your typical knee-jerk, emotional sky is falling, miles sux, type posters. Hell, dukkee and others are on here talking about how Saban outcoached miles last night......it's just what you get when you get a bunch of 20 year olds trying to give an opinion....

also the fact is that we were running the ball on them and had all the momentum. It is very possible LSU busts one when that close in...the OL was dominating. Being up there around the five, there were many more options on how to handle second down.

As soon as they were pushed back with the penalty, it was clear we would kick a field goal, and hope we could make it since it wasn't going to be a gimmee.

Do you know football? It gave them extra timeout.. Stopped the clock. We could have run three play up the middle for TD.. Even if we get field goal. They would have had 20 or less if the personal foul didn't happen.

If you don't think that play made a difference in the game then you don't understand football. Several players on both teams were shoving and it 100% should have been offsetting. Emotions are running high so you should just give both teams what amounts to a warning. That foul took us well out of range for a TD with 2nd and goal from the 20. You had to play for the FG at that point. It was one of many bad calls last night.

Are you truly serious? If so, you're very ignorant when it comes to football.
We had the ball 1st and goal at about the 6, with about a minute and a half to go, and Bama had 3 timeouts. We wanted to make them use the clock, but we were in great position to score a TD. The TD was the priority; it outweighed them keeping a TO because if we scored 7 the BEST they could do was tie us. We had game in hand.

The penalty negated that. 2nd and goal from the 20, no chance to get another set of downs- that totally changed the game. You now have almost no chance to score a TD, but you're still in FG range, and your opponent has 2 TO's. Imagine the rage if we threw an incomplete pass and left them a TO for the last drive

Should have been off-setting or a no call...
That's the way I see it as well. It's a shame the officials decided to throw a flag when there were multiple players from both sides pushing and shoving each other. And how did they miss the penalty when Jennings face mask got ripped off his helmet? It sure as hell didn't fall off on its own!

I disagree with you dukke. Saban didn't outcoach Miles last night. Saban once again got the benefit of a couple of piss poor penalties that were called against LSU and the benefit of a couple of no-calls against Bama ( Jennings face mask getting pulled off his helmet for example). Bama did win however, so you and the other Miles haters can rejoice in that fact.

First, it was a no call or off setting at best. Second, and more to the point, the penalty changed the outcome of the game. This was not about fumbles or missed catches or conservative play calling or prevent defense. It was about an unnecessary call stealing momentum and an opportunity to either score a TD or run down the clock before the field goal. While there were many missed opportunities to win the game, I hate that the most decisive game change was an bad call from an official.

I don't think we were gonna throw it in the endzone. Bama knew that too. We were gonna run in smack up the middle into their stacked box, and then kick the field goal. Anyone who is used to Les ball should know this

Bama got a 15 yard penalty on their OT possession yet they still scored a TD.

Why couldn't LSU go for a TD on their last possession in regulation?

We didn't gain a yard on that drive. We could have started the drive on the GOAL LINE and it would not have mattered.

If we had scored a touchdown instead of a field goal, the defense you saw may very likely allowed a touchdown which would have also tied the game and sent it to overtime.

Alexander should not have shoved the guy. That was dumb on his part and it was a critical mistake.
