Why does the o-line always suck when the coaches praise it before the season?

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has noticed this, but I haven't seen it discussed much. Even the national media jumped on board with the idea that LSU would have one of the best lines in football.

Do you think the coaches really believed it or were they just trying to instill confidence in the team?

Or, is Les Miles the devil and he just wants to torture us all?

Yeah, happened in 08. Miles said it was the best O-Line he's coached

This is a great question. It does seem like this happens quite often. The coaches claim the OL is going to be great, and then the season starts and it hardly ever pans out. The LSU OL has had a history of improving during the season, though. Not always, but sometimes.

I was one of those guys praising Grimes, but so far the production under his tutelage hasn't been very good.

Yeah, 08 was the perfect example, but this time, the national media was all over it, mostly because of the raw talent, on paper, anyway.

I have no basis for praising Grimes. Hopefully, it's just transitional growing pains. The guy does have a solid resume.

Yeah, I remember that shite. That was the first time that I had to face the question of whether Les was either incompetent or lying. I mean, it has to be one or the other. Either he was just so completely off and unable to actually gauge his team or he was deliberately lying.

Either answer sucked.

Because Miles may think we have a stellar o-line. Every year. I know that's hard to fathom. He gets paid a lot of money to know if our offensive line is ready to roll. I guess maybe he missed on this one. Every year.

The lack of a passing games the oline look terrible. If the defense respects the pass, the oline job is much easier. Thats why they looked good last year.

But the pass protection has looked like crap from snap one against Wisconsin. There has to be more to it than lack of quality qb play.

Explain 2010?

2010
2023 pass yards 10 TDs 11 ints
2438 rush yards 29 TDs

2013
3263 pass yards 23 TDs 9 ints
2630 rush yards 37 TDs

I could add in 2012 for good measure.
