Why didn't we go for the scoop and score on the fumble recovery?

I know they just react to the loose ball and jump on it but I just watched the replay for the first time and we could have walked into the endzone.

cause there was 2 minutes left and we were tied... You get the ball. Safest way to get ball is the best way to get ball in that situation.

Because if he didn't get a clean recovery, everyone would want to crucify him for not diving on it to give us first and goal.

I have no problem with that. balls always appear slippery as frick when people are scrambling to scoop. There was a high change with the angle and bounce that it would have gone out of bounds or picked back up by bama if he tried to scoop for the score. Diving on it to secure the possession was absolutely fine in my book.

Yeah I agree I have no problem with it but damn the endzone was wide open.

Would you be asking this question if we had scored a TD on that drive?

Because diving on it is the RIGHT move. Just like in 2007 when BAMA fumbled. Only difference was that team finished the drive with Hester and the defense did not fold on the last drive...

Just being safe and get possession. Yeah...in retrospect it certainly would have made my major complaint in regards to the officiating call on the next play moot...but I can't fault Beck for not picking it up and taking it in. I certainly did not at the time in the stadium.

When I re-watched that series though, my heart sank looking at how there was no one near him and he had a host of Tigers around him. He could have stood still, leaned over and picked it up and practically walked in. He couldn't have known that then, but it was an opportunity lost for sure.

Diving on it is the right call. My gf was freaking out and I told her "this is far from over its refgate time"

Sure enough

Go for the sure thing and just get on the ball.

Or if he had tried to scoop it, but juggled it out of bounds or allowed an Alabama recovery?

OP is a stupid question.

Ref pushed him down. I thought everyone saw it? I was surprised it wasn't #1 on the missed call thread.

He obviously should have knocked the ball into the endzone, waited for gump player to jump on it/pick it up, tackle them, safety, tigers get the ball back, tigers win! How did he not think of this while the ball was laying on the turf???

Obviously looking back you would try to score. I didn't hear anyone saying Danielle Hunter screwd up on his fumble recovery by scoring a touchdown. Maybe we lose that one also if he didn't

If you actually watch the replay Rasco goes for the scoop and could have easily walked into the endzone. But just as he gets to the ball Beckwith dives on it preventing him from picking it up.
