Most of the things that fans obsess over now are a direct result of internet access. When I was growing up and started following LSU in the 70's and 80's, 90% of the fanbase couldn't tell you from year to year how recruiting went because people just didn't follow it back then like they do now. You also didn't have 24 hour sports covering every nook and cranny of the sports world. The ability to be offended wasn't there back then.

Why are we as a fan base a lot of times looking to knock the guys out there playing and risking injury for our entertainment?

True... Some time ago we didn't have access to what some random local writers said about us in Los Angeles.
