Why are LSU fans the best and worst fans in sports?

Can anyone explain this?

Even if I sit here and defend the loss and find the positives, this board will crucify me for it.

If the football team loses a game, even against an underrated FSU team, people want Coach Kelly fired.

Can you name the NCAA Head Coach that won a National Title in his first season with a team?

Larry Coker, 2001 - Butch Davis built that squad and then took off for NFL, handing it off to LC. ANYONE wins a title coaching that team.

There might be 1-2 others from 60 years earlier but it is rare. Not even the King of Football, Nick Saban, won a title in his first year.

In other words, relax. We have plenty of games that can get us in the title hunt. It is better to lose now instead of at the end of the season.

It’s because you are an LSU fan. If you were a Kentucky fan you’d be saying the exact same thing about them.

When you set a standard, such as playing for 4 and winning 3 titles in a 16 year span, and have as much NFL talent come through here as we have, being the only major school in a talent rich state as Louisiana is, fans expect that standard to be met. When it is met we're joyous, when it's not we're angry. Either way we're going to be vocal about what's happening.

Agree with cajuntiger1010. My opinion is decision making is almost a balancing scale with emotional & rational/logical being on opposite sides. Lsu fans are passionate, often making emotional decisions/actions/expectations rather than rational ones.

I don’t feel like much of that talent is on this team though. Expectations need to be tempered until we get there and I believe we will. We have some nice players, but how many turn out long time NFLers is not like it was in the past. Ed O did a huge number in our roster.

This board isn't an indicator of the majority of LSU fans.

No I agree with some of that. I do think the talent is there, but when talent and coach's vision don't mingle it might as well look like the talent isn't there at all. And obviously the depth isn't there because of low scholarship numbers. I pretty much even said before the season started I'd give a pass for whatever happens this year because of that.

But as for the question posed in the OP, I don't think it applies to just this one year looming in front of us, I interpreted it as an encompassing question. Years like when we had Odell and Landry with Mett at the helm and Hill out the backfield, and all we got were a couple of 3 loss seasons to show for that.

Because you want to be blue bloods but aren’t and this just feeds into your insecurity about your second rate athletics program.

Most passionate fans around.

Worst football knowledge fans around thinking we’re always better than what is shown on the field.

Oh and we have a bad arse live tiger mascot

Coker went 12-1, 11-2, 9-3, 9-3 after their 2001 championship. I wouldn’t say he was that bad of a coach.

I will make it a point to be in Vegas for the LSU/USC game. It's about 20 years too late but I've been waiting for us to play each other for way too long to pass it up. Worse comes to worse and we lose it's a weekend in Vegas and that's never dull

We really aren't either one. Go read a Bama, Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, Tennessee, etc., etc., board after a big win or a big loss. You'll see the same level of unrealistic expectations that you find here.

It should be a good one, I plan to be there myself. Our rebuilds should both be in full swing by then and it should a great game. Trojan fans aren’t too bad, except for me, I’m the worst.

It's reasonable to not expect a National Championship and at the same time expect to not play like crap.

Also, every fanbase has a large percentage of lunatics. Especially in a day and age of lunacy as the norm in society.

Because we drink too much. Very happy and loud when things go well but turn into the abusive drunk as soon as things don’t go our way

People point to Saban for turning us around but you need to give props to Les Miles who had us a top 5 program for quite a long time, even with some questionable coaching errors here and there. I mean, we were in “the Game of the Century” vs. Bama, prime time, nationwide on CBS. At this exact minute, we are a bit bummed that we looked poorly coached. Losing fair and square can be absorbed but that was a terrible first impression by CBK and staff.

Agreed

But ignoring…or ignorant, to the fact that LSU had 39 players to end last season, how epically bad the roster was managed after 2019 and thinking a simple coaching change magically fixes that in 8 months…

The roster was substantially better under Dinardo than it was at the end of 2021. People need to stop glossing over how big of a rebuild this is
