For me it's Bill O'brien. He wasn't at Penn state all that long, so even though I thought yes he did handle the sanctions well, we also didn't get to see how he would have done in years 3 and 4, which is when the schollie reductions would really make an impact.

His NFL background also doesn't leave me thrilled. There's the obvious texans tenure where he didn't seem to understand you have to have talent players to win. The gm qualities like talent evaluation absolutely translate to college football when it comes to recruiting. I also don't care for NFL guys in general, their schemes seem to be vanilla, which is why I didn't jump up and down for linehan or this year's coordinators.

Third, saban assistants are like the college equivalent of bellichik disciples. Once they get away from the master, they look lost. Yeah there's kirby and jimbo, but they both landed in pretty good spots program wise.

So yeah all in all, of all the names being tossed out, the one I really dislike is BOB

Jimbo. He overblows, underachieves, and leaves a dumpster fire everywhere he goes.

For the names that keep popping up: Kiffin

Though I will say with Kiffin at least he'd be a better hire than Orgeron was at the time and could possibly be on the upswing of his career finally. You would at least get a great offense and a full cupboard of talent to consistency work with. He can recruit and coach an offense. The problem is he hasn't been successful at any major program yet.

Could be a boom or bust hire. I'd rather us go with a homerun swing for the fences guy than a high risk one like him. We're second chance U so he seems like a very likely candidate.

Jimbo. But if we get bill O’Brien, I’m quitting this school. Dude is the absolute worst coach in history.

I don't think BOB is a high list candidate. I think he's a guy you call when you strike out on everyone else because that's a pretty terrible hire if LSU went with that.

Why is it on these coaching searches we always have 2-3 candidates from insiders that everyone knows is a fricking awful hire except the LSU admin? It's like LSU has a troll in the admin who floats and lobbies these shitty candidates out like they're internally sabotaging the program. That was like when Pelini was floated as a possible hire before they hired him last year and that nightmare became reality. If I remember right he was high on the list on Aranda's first hire.

Who is you're "homerun swing for the fences" guy that would REALISITICALLY come to LSU?

Saban? Of course not
Dabo? He's not leaving Clemson

EVERYONE ELSE besides those guys are going to have "cons" as to why they shouldn't be hired

BOB is one. Fickel is my other. It’s not that I don’t think he’s a good coach, it’s just that he’s never left Ohio for work.

I know that he can fill his staff with recruiters and he will build the relationships, but I just feel like he’s a Big 10 guy through and through.

After our last 2, I'd be satisfied with a coach that speaks English and can tell time.

If we won championships with those two clowns, imagine what we could do with a decent high school coach.

Napier

We tried the Curly Hallman experiment already. We don't need a lower mid level coach again - been there, done that.

That's hard to say who's realistic and who isn't. You never know until you ask. Might get surprised at who says yes when they see the $$$ and career opportunity moving forward. LSU is a top 5 desirable location if you want to get paid and progress your career.

That's true. But you didn't answer the question. Who are the "home run" candidates you say LSU should swing for?

We tried bringing in a coach from another conference (Miles) and had to fire him.
We tried hiring from within the SEC (Dinardo) and had to fire him.
We tried promoting from within (Archer) and had to fire him. O fits this mold also.

I'm not saying Napier is the guy, but Hallman's lack of success here is a pretty small sample size.

Based on your logic, Mel Tucker is the only legitimate candidate.
