I thought he is all in on NBA. Lofton is now an afterthought.

per DD this morning, sounds like O'Neal is testing the waters going pro

Makes sense, as he's the 2nd coming of KD.

He's "testing the waters" but has still maintained his eligibility. Per Rothstein, he will make a decision on his future after the pre combine camp(G League elite camp). Shareef is also invited to this event. Generally it is for fringe prospects or kids who are talented and under scouted.

You can earn a combine invite based on how you do in this camp. Most entrants that come up short on that combine invite return to school, as that is an indication they have almost no chance of being drafted.

If we can get Miller back, maybe just sign that white boy who shot open 3s in practice and one or two early season, that some people like me included thought that’s all were gonna have left

Yep. You can look at it, generally, as the group of players who are worth being considered as POTENTIAL draft picks, but not quite good enough to be considered LIKELY draft picks.

Lofton obviously performed well at Tech. He performed well on the US national team. But, perhaps, he still needs to show he can perform consistently at the highest level of college ball. Unless he just wants to go to the G-League, I suspect he will be able to get a good NIL deal that pays him more to join a power conference program.

I would LOVE to see him at LSU. However, with Williams already on board more of a traditional center may be a better fit for LSU. Both Williams and Lofton are PF's...even though they could play the 5 in college. Still, if he wants to come you don't turn him down. Figuring out where and how to play him with Williams would be a great "problem" to have.

At what point was lofton an option for LSU? I must have missed that

TigerLaw40 insinuated earlier in this post that Lofton was the secret big time surprise recruit that everyone has been hush hush about. If you reread this thread in its entirety you’ll see where this assumption comes from.

Adam Miller lol

The rant would retired this guys jersey and he’s never played a minute at LSU. Gotta love that 8.3 pts scoring average.

As a freshman on a final four team from the big ten, context matters.

I spoke with someone recently who spoke directly to O'Neal about staying. O'Neal was gracious, but said he already went through a coaching change once (at UCLA) and did not really want to go through it again at LSU

I don't get the reasoning. There is not an option to not have a coaching change. If he wants to play ball next year he will definitely have a new coach. Why not stick with a familiar environment and a few familiar teammates?

Illinois was not a final four team. They lost in the second around to Loyola.

Ship has sailed. After Shaq’s comments of unfair treatment, it was pretty much a done deal.
