All any decent OC will do is let Mingo run himself out of position and counter to his side. You need DEs who can contain.
I understand that. I'm not implying he just bolts off the line on every play for the backfield but if he's in containment, then pursues the ball, his speed will force the ball carrier the other way.

Aside from injury, I can't see anyone but Adams STARTING in the beginning of the season.

Ala Alabama for an entire fricking half right at alem.

Mingo is still a situational player to me.
Go with Adams or Edwards opposite of Montgomery and when it's 3rd/long go with Mingo and Montgomery on the outside or if we go to Mustang. During Mustang I expect to see Mingo/Montgomery on the outside almost every time with a penetrator on the inside like Freak or Downs.

I use to love watching him lineup offsides or run 10 yards behind the QB...
I think Adams will start. He wasn't flashy last year but pretty solid overall. Didn't really make mistakes. Edwards was always a project when he came here. Very raw and he has got progressively better. If he reaches his potential, then Adams will be behind him.

Adams got some serious hype coming out of fall camp last season, but I wasn't all that impressed with him.
Yeah I kept wondering why he was starting b/c he never made his presence known ... kinda like Pep or Luke Sanders a few years ago.

I don't recall but a few times he overran a play, nothing too unexpected for a Fr. He's not Alem for crying out loud.

quote:Overrunning the play isn't even the big issue, it's not getting abused in the run game by SEC OL. Until he can consistently hold the edge against a guy like Derek Sherrod or Bradley Sowell, he isn't an every down player. Sacks are fun and all, but most of our schedule are power running teams first.

I'm thinking they'll play Edwards and Mingo according to the situation with Mingo being the only one that could possibly emerge as the every down starter.

Pep never really made plays and frequently got pushed back. Adams at least held his own in containment.

Adams was a TE his first year in juco, so he didn't have a lot of experience at DE coming in last year. I think he will look like a different player this year.

Adams was the guy last season, but if Edwards plays like he did towards the end of last season I think he could easily overtake that job. Thoughts?
The depth chart in the media guide has it listed as Adams with Mingo backing him up. My assumption is that Adams will play obvious running downs and Mingo will come in as a pass rush specialist.
Edwards is backing up Montgomery. I was surprised to see that and thought he would take over the starting role from Adams.
I guess time will tell.

Is Chancey Aghayere gone?
Posted on 7/17/11 at 11:32 am to gtg821x
good question. He was supposed to be an all-SEC calibre talent. Where'd he go?

No. He's just third string SDE at this point behind Adams and Mingo. I imagine he will relieve Adams late in games. Mingo isn't an every down player so he shouldn't need relief.
Minter is 3rd string on the weak side, according to the guide.
It'll be interesting to see where Rasco winds up by year's end.
The other guy everybody forgets about is Jordan Allen. I guess he is behind Aghayere.

Was never the same after injuring his knee late in HS. He has just never become the player we hoped he could be here at LSU. It is a shame, but it happens all the time.

This is as deep as I can ever remember us being at DE. And only Adams won't be back next year. It's a damn shame Macklin wasn't able to redshirt last year.
