thought this also, but the early start with the team has me wondering if he steps right in...

I cannot recall too many times that an interior dlineman started out the gate for an SEC contender, but if anyone can, it seems it could be freak to do it.

Not sure why some doubt his ability to come in and start, or at least get starters snaps to start the season.
Kid looks like he should be readying for the Senior Bowl, not his first spring game.

because I can't recall too many true freshman doing so at an SEC championship-contending team, especially when we have Brockers, Logan, Downs, Davenport and Ego all showing good play also.

Davenport has showed nothing. I wouldn't be surprised to see him switch to the OL.

Just wondering, as in my opinion, QB-DLine and CB are the difference making positions to win the SEC.

oline moron....no oline=no qb, no oline=no running game, no oline=no ball control and dline and cb's on the field too long.

If he picks up the defense with no problem he will def start. If he doesn't I think he'll be starting before the season ends.

I think both DT spots are up for grabs. Brockers probably is a leading candidate for one spot but he certainly hasn't done enough to have it locked up. Downs plays hard but is just overmatched physically sometimes. Ego is coming off a RS, Logan has done well when he has played but that has been rare. Davenport has shown nothing to this point. So Freak will definitely have an opportunity to start. He has the best chance of anyone to help with the loss of Nevis because of his quickness and ability to disrupt plays imo

DT is a wide open position

I'm all about freak coming in and competing. But, how can you say this about him and put him in this category? He has played high school ball and even if he is going up against the best offensive linemen in the nation at the All-star game... They are only high school seniors. Anthony Johnson hasn't seen top SEC linemen like Mike Pouncey, DeMarcus Love, Lee Ziemba, Derek Sherrod or James Carpenter.

Lets wait and see what he can do before we crown him the best d-lineman on our team.

That being said. I'm excited to see what he can do against the better compitition and I think he will see some playing time next year. It definately helps that he will be there for spring practice.

Didn't he bench 500 lbs. 25 reps? They also said that only 10 of the 50 defensive ends that were drafted last year could do this. If these stats are true and his speed at 4.6 or anywhere close to 5.0 and I say hell yeah he has a great shot at starting, even from the get go.
