LSU I assume

SEC gave us UF at home to appease us, but it still costs us one next year so still comes out of our pocket.

I would say depending on how the deal was made, the SEC may be liable.

In the very least, it's a $1.5M bargaining chip against the SEC in future negotiations.

LSU does. Hopefully the revenue from a bigger draw will offset it.

The Advocate and ESPN have conflicting stories.

The Advocate
quote:

LSU was scheduled to play South Alabama, and the Gators were set to host Presbyterian. It will cost the Tigers $1.5 million to buy out the Jaguars and will cost UF $500,000 to buy out of the game with USA. The SEC and Florida's home game insurance policy will cover the cost, the school announced.

ESPN
quote:

LSU and Florida will also buy out their scheduled home games originally scheduled for Nov. 19 -- Florida against Presbyterian and LSU against South Alabama.

I choose to interpret Foley's comment about LSU not being a partner in the discussion regarding the rescheduling of this game as meaning "Nobody asked for LSU's opinion and nobody cares"

I'm sure UF has to pay Presbyterian their buy out too. It's a wash IMO

Not really.

UF buyout of Presbyterian: $500,000

LSU buyout of USA: $1.5 mill (for a situation that UF caused).

I don't call that a wash.

That's bullshite.

It wouldn't bc we lose Florida next year. Essentially in the same boat, no South Alabama game revenue

That's not an extra home game. Just one less road game.

UF replaces an existing home game.

And, if we got an extra home game, when do we play South Alabama?

Funny thing is we could be paying a "Saban" level coaching salary for free the next 3 years if not for the cancellations the last two seasons. Miles was 4.5 and Saban makes 6+, we likely lose at least 6 mill on these games. So 2 mill a year for 3 years.

Paid what 3 mill last year to fans and mcneese? Won't pay fans this time but still pay South Alabama 1.5, and will gross less for season tickets next year.

Prob easily around 7 million in losses. That's just athletic department and not local economic losses too

LSU was fricked on October 1. All we could hope for after that was the best deal we could get.

No resolution was going to make everyone whole.

All things considered, this was a good deal for us and hurt Florida the most. They now have to play us in Tiger Stadium..........

Some posters act like toddlers who have some blocks around them and look around and see some other kid with blocks and start crying because they want those blocks too.

Prioritize the details of the deal and perhaps you will see it differently.

We keep all our home games. Great for our economy. We really need that this year because of the floods.

We play Florida in BR. More fans will show up and spend more money.

And our home town fan support will be thru the roof!
Just what the team needs in November.

Everyone's getting it a bit in the arse on this one. However, Florida is taking the worse hit as they are giving up a home game, which was probably insured and while they might not get a full pay out they'll get something. Florida is losing a few million over losing a home game and about a half mil over buying out their game. LSU will lose about 1.5 mil over their buyout. So while it's not a perfect situation, it's not a perfect world, and is probably the best solution that could be brought about. In addition to the buyouts, I am sure that some other concessions will be made to the two smaller schools at some point in the future in terms of rescheduling a money game against their original opponents.
