Analysts were positive Skenes would start on 4 days rest. Now they sound positive he wont pitch at all on 3 days rest. So 120 pitches on 4d is ok but 3d rest means u can throw 0 pitches? Trust the science! Baseball scientists.

Guarantee the GMs with the top three picks are shaking in their boots and on their knees praying that he’s done

It’s the combination that would be tough. He’s not use to throwing on 4 days rest let alone 3. However he could pitch about 25 pitches on Monday since that would be his bullpen day normally

Common sense? Experience?

He’s thrown 243 pitches since last Saturday, normally aka what his body is used to is a week between starts so 6 days sometimes 5. Expecting him to throw 3 times in 9 days is unrealistic

Why? Pitching one time on three days rest will ruin him as a prospect? It’s such a classic pendulum swing. Like the days of guys throwing 140 pitches every 5 days every year of their career is not good, but the “anything over 100 pitches and maximum rest could ruin a career” is equally as absurd

Technically he could pitch on 0 days rest. But that doesn’t mean that he should.

Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in one game. Pitched for 20 years in MLB.

Pitch counts are stoopit.
Who GAF about possible damage to his arm?
What do MLB owners, GM's, managers, etc know.
You gotta do what the rantards want.
Amirite?

when he was involved with the Rangers a few years back (during their only period of ws appearances,) his philosophy was that the arms were underutilized and stressed more conditioning for pitchers

Science. But specifically, the medical & training staffs. A recovery program will be put in place based on how his body has responded to the program that he's used all year. They will adjust it for an anticipated short rest, and he will be evaluated through the weekend. Monday morning, he will go through some tests/evaluations; then a decision will be made.

Not advocating either way but to rule it out based on unscientific baseball mythology is pretty silly.

It's not as much his arm will be injured as it is how effective would he be.

How old was he when he did those 235?

How long had he been in MLB at the time?

Were there any long or short term side effects of that outing?

Quoting a single statistic is not any level of "scientific" proof.

No way! I thought that was case closed end of debate. Dammit.
