Shepard obviously. Why do you think he's coming back?

I'm sorry, but you do not need to be able to run to be a quarterback. Peyton Manning told a story at the Manning Passing Academy that they were being timed in the 40 earlier in his career and he was running next to an offensive linemen and lost. He said he didn't hear his time but the OL ran a 5.8. I think that you can make due without having running skills as Manning has done it for years.

Randall. Actually, he's faster than Jordan and (per ODB) has a better arm than Mett. It'll be interesting to see how the coaches develop him.

Poor accuracy though. That will probably come with time.

Mettenberger, he told Gordy Monday that the team was his now.

I was just going off the OP's criteria. There's not much doubt that Mett's the best we got now and that he'll be slinging it around the next year or 2. The potential of the youngins is intriguing though.

I'm just ready for the Zach Attack to take flight (with the occasional bootleg - Mett was robbed of a TD vs Ole Miss)

Someone with an above average IQ. Sorry but arms and feet aren't shite compared to smart decisions. Just look at the two QBs who won the last two NCs at LSU. Mauck And Flynn didn't have the biggest arms or quickest feet.

I don't think IQ is the quality that I am looking for...football IQ is what is needed. You can have all the physical tools in the world and be a terrible QB.

JJ has some physical gifts, but no feel for football: poor pocket presence, no ability to anticipate when a receiver will come open, poor vision when trying to run the football, poor feel for game situations, slow decision making, etc.

There are a lot of qualities that a QB needs that cannot be measured with a stopwatch of a speedgun. The biggest one of all is the ability to lead the team, especially under pressure.

A high IQ can certainly be helpful, but football IQ is required.

Mett!!! He wont need to run fast... he has a cannon for an arm, if he can make his reads, check offs, and work his game plan... he has all the tools around him to ge successful...

When you have a stable of RB's the caliber of LSU's there really should be a need for a running QB.

Is there a link of ODB saying he has a better arm, or do rumors stay on this board now?

Also, EVERY reporter that has been to LSU during practice says that Mett has the best arm then maybe anyone they've ever seen at LSU, but im sure ODB is an expert.

it's in an article about Mett: LINK

ODB on Mett:

quote:

"One of the things I really about him is he's not afraid to take a risk. He also really does have a cannon for an arm."

liked this part:

quote:

Mettenberger said he's learned to become more of a passer than just a thrower. "I used to 'juice' everything." He also said he's realized he has to be quicker with his decisions thanks to his time on the Tigers practice field this year. "If you're a split-second too late on a timing route, (Claiborne and Tyrann Mathieu) are gonna jump it."

from what ppl were saying during fall camp last yr, Randall was 'juicing' everything. that's something that can be learned in time though.

Huh? It reads to me that ODB was saying that Mett has the cannon for the arm. Where does anyone say that ODB says that Jerrard Randall has a better arm than Zach Mettenberger. That's what I want to see. The quote you just quoted says Mett and then you replaced it with Randall.
