The boxscore credited LSU freshman Ryan Baker with three special-teams tackles, including a startling pop of Appalachian State return man CoCo Hillary on the opening kickoff.

Baker introduced himself rather loudly to LSU fans, as Miles noted.

“Wasn’t that fun to watch ol’ 22?” Miles asked. “I told Baker, I said, ‘Baker, do you know what everybody’s doing in the stadium right now?’ ”

Miles answered his own question with the question he suspected fans asked at the time: “Who in the heck is 22?”

Pretty funny, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the hit.

It showed! Nice debut in Tiger Stadium. He will hear his name/number for the next four years.

this dude was garbage. the one guy on Appy that got on my nerves.

but baker is going to be a beast. when he made that first tackle me and my buddies were going "was that ryan baker!?" then he made some more great tackles on kickoffs. cant wait to see him putting pressure on the qb.

I record every game so that I can look at certain plays in detail. Once "22" got my attention(and CoCo's as well), I looked for him on every KO. He was the first down the field every time. On the second KO he must have still been "feelin' it" because he didn't break down and read the flow of the return and just missed the returner. On every KO after that he positioned himself to shed the blocker in the direction opposite of the ball carrier. He did this w/o stopping to engage the blocker, he read the play and bounced towards the runner. I am VERY impressed with him, and feel that he will earn his scholly on special teams alone.
