Just saw a list of the top 10 DEs in the last decade. The writer put Keke Mingo at #9 and Sam Montgomery at #7. So I ask, who do you think had the better college career?

I say Mingo. Always seemed to be flying around the field, big Sam would take the occasional play off or just stay latched to his blocker.

Pretty sure Sam had more sacks and tackles in 2011 and 2012. Both great players though . I'll never forget Herbie Having a man crush on Mingo In the Oregon game haha

Sam was an absolute beast in his soph season and very good as a junior. Better career than KeKe but both were great

Montgomery did have a better career than Mingo. Mingo had more raw athleticism but Sam's numbers were definitely better over his career.

You literally just described one season and attributed it to a career. Sonic Sam had the better career at LSU, no question.

You're all out of your damn mind.. He slowly got worse as his career went on, which is why you saw him go from a projected 1st rounder to a 3rd rounder.

They both had about the same success. Sam had a good year before in 2010, they both had great years in 2011, then Mingo had a better 2012. I think that injury messed Sam up, when he came back heavier he never was the same

I'd go with Sam, but it's kinda splitting hairs.

the former was overblown, and the latter was somewhat scheme-related.

a Texans fan blog did a pretty good breakdown of Sam right after he was drafted, focusing on stuff like his having to take on blockers, why he lined up slightly off the ball/ seemed to come off late.

a lot of times Sam played like a bigger DE than the 6'4 250 guy he was. and he still mixed in the disruptive tfl/ sack stuff to boot (taking nothing from Keke, who was better at the point against the run than ppl gave him credit for).

I'll always remember Sam sacking McCarron in overtime of the 9-6 game and doing his Sonic Sam jump

And Keke started out very slowly. So, over their entire college careers, Big Sam was more productive, thus had a better CAREER.

Mingo was and is better, however Sam's stats make it debatable that his college career was slightly better. Had Sam not been injured early in 2010, his stats could have been near record-stetting for a DE.
