Pitching would be the killer if you consider three SP and one RP as starters.

If you take the 3 weekend starters out of the rotation and start the backups at all the other positions, this team isn't a top 25 team IMO. Competitive yea, but not top 25

if we had decent 4, 5, 6 pitchers it would be close.

Those freshman are looking pretty good. Should be a good couple years at least

Who would you have out there. Let's say for argument's sake....

OF - Johnny Dishon
OF - Nick Pontiff
OF - Chris McGhee
1B - Buzzy Haydel
2B - Grant Dozar
SS - Tyler Hanover
3B - Austin Nola
C - Kevin Farnsworth
DH - Mikie Mahtook

SP - Matulis, Reidie, Cain (Sort of hard to determine "starters" when it comes to pitchers so I just threw out the weekend guys).

that team could finish about 7th in the SEC, and maybe 3rd in the West

im not sure what their record would be, but i was at the game last night (all the way til the end even though temperatures might have been under 40), and grant dozar hit an absolute B.O.M.B.... im not kidding man he smoked it over the 405 sign it must have went 450ft no joke..

i was also there after the game and had a brief discussion with blake dean even though he was freezing his arse off... he's a stand up guy FWIW

They only look good because the "starters" have killed them so badly the other teams kinda give up.

Probably top 35-40. Not a legit conference champ by any means.

+ 1

One of our current teama biggest strengths is their experience and that swagger you get when you know your good. The young guys dont have either one of those. Alot of talent their but you need more than talent to win consistently all season.

Which is about where Smoke Laval had his first string.

Demoralization certainly can effect the opponent. However, many of the youngsters who are shining in reserve roles or spot starting were expected to do so. Most if not all of the LSU reserves could be starting at Division I schools had they been interested only in playing time. Coach Mainieri and his staff have done a fantastic job of recruiting and securing their share of the top young talent in the land. Cudos to them and let's hope it continues. Good times at the Box these days.
