In the list of "Awful Plays, Given the Situation"

Although this was awful no matter what the situation was...

The backwards pass was pretty bad

He should have been benched at half

No question about it. Everyone in the stadium knew it.

In the top 5% with several other JJ plays, yet he was still in a position to compete with himself

Got to be one of the worst considering he could have ran for 15 yards and gotten some momentum going. Instead Bama gets the ball and another FG added to their insurmountable 9 point lead.

It is about the same as X Carter going to one knee after coming out of the end zone on a KO return against Florida

and

the Tennessee QB that simply tossed the ball in the air against LSU to avoid a sack in the end zone for a safety that turned into a pick 6 for LSU

In other words,

incredibly unbelieveable.

He had a lot of room to run with Ware in front of him as a blocker. The game is well within reach at that point if we can put something together. He was scared from the very beginning and it came to a head with that play!

It was a bad and embarrasing play, but the LSU defense actually forced Bama into a field goal attempt, which they missed.

As for the play itself, just on the surface, it's not as bad as:

-the decision to throw a pass with the lead and after 2 pick 6's vs Auburn in 1994.
- the spike vs Ole Miss in 2009
- the last play bomb from Iowa in Saban's last game
- the decision to not run Cecil Collins on 3rd and 2 during his total domination vs Auburn in 2007

We got exactly what we deserved based on the Miles being stubborn.

I would have to rank it 2nd in all time worst plays. To me, the Ole Miss debacle in Oxford is by far the worst and then the shovel pass 2nd. Dont know if JJ gets the full blame for oxford but definitely he deserves all the blame for the shovel pass.

The magnitude of that play tops these plays 10 fold.

i don't think that is such a terrible mistake... he tossed it at the same time ware spun around.. it sucks that it was bad timing being in the biggest game of the season, but cut him some slack... jesus
