Does Gilbert go to middle relief? Or have the Tigers found their guy?

I think Gilbert is you closer. Newman is your 8th inning guy. I trust Gilbert coming in with runners on base way more than Newma also.

I think Newman may go into middle relief to start. But all that depends on what Gilbert is doing when Newman is ready to return. If he's been effective, he'll remain as closer.

I have no problem using two different guys as closers. Not bug on defined roles for college pitchers outside of the starters

Either way we will have 2 bullpen guys very capable of finishing out a game. That might come in very handy during the postseason when one isn't available.

Newman (if he comes back and returns to form) and Gilbert can both provide 2+ inning saves too.

Gilbert can't throw enough innings on weekends for my taste.

Beck continues to make a case for a prominent relief role.

Wish Peterson would get in the groove.

Newman, Gilbert, Bain, and Beck look like they'll be the reliable bullpen guys but we really need at least 1 or 2 more and Lange to pitch consistently in order to make a postseason run. I think Reynolds could be one since he has a lot of experience. Hopefully Peterson can be another. I'm very impressed with Walker and we have plenty of time for a couple more relievers to gain some confidence. This team looks like the type that can put it all together late in the season. I think today's win was huge going forward.

I do, too. I haven't heard any updates on Newman. The last I heard, which was about a week ago, he was having some tests run. I thought maybe there was recent information about his situation.

Bain has been pretty solid too.

Yeah he's quietly been the most consistent reliever imo.
