What's the Rant's thoughts on Jacques Doucet's impression of Hawthorne?

Pretty good IMHO. Also slightly awkward.

Jim was so bad that I don't even have to click the link to know that whatever Jacques is doing, it sounds better.

That was pretty funny. Gordy Rush does a decent Skip. I always got a laugh when someone would call into the postgame show and say they had a question for Skip and Gordy would do that long low groan noise Skip does when he starts a sentence.

I agree that he was a bit..off...his last couple of seasons or do. But the guy was pretty good over his career. He had an excitable voice. He was pretty knowledgeable in all sports he called, and for the most part, did a good job explaining what was going on. Again, until the last several seasons. It was clearly time for him to hang it up. But sone if you act like he was terrible for his entire career, which simply us not the case.

I realize it's an opinion thing and personal preference. I'm 43 and for the majority of my adult life, I never cared for his style. It was probably the constant mistakes with the names of the players and the rules. Same reason I never liked Verne.

Jim is a very nice person however. Met him a few times when my friend was dating his daughter where they were tailgating.

His call on Warren Morris's homerun beating Miami was epic to me.

No question about that one. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.

Jacques actually does some good impressions, but I think Hawthorne is his best

The impression was actually pretty good! Enjoyed what coach had to say about the impression and about Jim.

Since I have never been to a game in Tiger Stadium Jim Hawthorne took me to the game on Saturday nights. He was definitely "off" the last few years. It made me laugh and it made me cringe but he will always be "the voice of the Tigers" to me.
Chris Blair is a great replacement in my opinion. Happy to have him take me to the games now.

Yeah, I don't get the Chris Blair hate sometimes, he's a really good PbP person and he continues to improve I think as he gets more comfortable in the role

Chris is amazing. Don't see how anyone could hate on him. A pro's pro.

I love his John Brady impression better but his Hawthorne and Paul Mineri (however you spell his name) are pretty good.

Actually, it's pretty bad. It just sounds like a Cajun/coonass accent.

You could do it? What is your radio voice like?

I for 1 immensely enjoyed every single game Jim called in those championship runs to the CWS. His Warren Morris call is FOREVER IN LSU LORE.
HoF Broadcaster versus a random ranter. I’ll take the HoF broadcaster and everyone else in the media’s opinion of him and not your sorry arse opinion.
