LSUs two best coaches ever were “up and comers”

The state of the program was FAR different when Skip was hired. An "up and comer" was about all the AD would/could pay for. And quite frankly, no one really cared if the program won or not.

Maineri was (almost) 50 when he was hired. He'd been a D1 HC for nearly 20 years at that time. I don't think anyone (well maybe you) would put him in the "up and comer" category.

The program is in a spot where they are able to get ANY coach in the sport to at least field a phone call. Particularly, when you are likely willing to make the next HC the highest paid HC in the nation. Does that mean they don't ultimately hire a guy like Vitello or Godwin? Of course not. But this isn't 1983. LSU is "in play" for everyone worth a damn in the game if nothing else due to the fact LSU is very willing to pay probably unprecedented money to a CBB coach.

He seemed to be in the umps ears a lot, which is good, the umps sure did a good job of squeezing the strike zone for Lsu pitchers

Just answering the OPs question with my opinion.

If you disagree, fine.

After years of bitching nonstop about Paul sitting emotionlessly in the dugout, we are gonna clutch our pearls because we got our asses kicked by a team and coach who wanted it way more.

I hear ya. And then there are some, not many, who are cool with the idea of Bianco. His teams tense up and find ways to lose games when it matters most. I would rather avoid more of the same results lately. I would gladly take Vitello over him right now. I believe he has as many Omaha appearances as Bianco already.

I know a lot of people don't care for some of his recent actions, but Vitello would be exciting.

There are people that will discount this because he made it by beating us. Some of those same people touted Sully's national championship.

No, I agreed with you. A fiery, active coach is the last thing we need.

I can't imagine having a coach who actively engages in the game.

No need for sarcasm.

I don’t think he’s what LSU needs. It’s ok if you want the guy. Opinions vary.

Yeah, I guess.

But, over half of the time Saban's rants are aimed at his own players.

Just saying.

So, he's even a bigger a-hole.

Assholes win.

So were Trent Johnson and Gerry Dinardo.

Tennessee has hired nothing but up and comers since Fulmer. How’s that worked out?

If he wants to be LSU’s head baseball coach, hire him and don’t look back!!

#2: Louisville HC

#3: Cannizzaro.....in any case hire him on staff and help LSU baseball and help his career, hopefully to succeed when hired HC steps down

Bump.

I love how this thread has aged. The rant was probably 60 - 40 against Vitello being our next coach when I posted this.

I bet it’s now 90 - 10 for him being our next coach.

I like the fact that he’s young and got some entergy to him. I’ve watched a lot of his interviews and I’m impressed with how he carries himself.
I can definitely see why 18 year old kids would want to play for him.

Will take him over CPM but there are better coaches. You ask what the Rant thinks? They are obsessed with him because he’s the hot coach this year. Any other year no one would care about him.

As someone who has known Woody for a long time he has something that I have. I put a lock of stock into the character of a man.

So does he. Vitello won’t be the pick if for no other reason than that.
