I've seen some people say that the turning point was the second game of the Arkansas series where we were sitting at 5-5 in SEC play. From the second game on, we finished SEC play at 16-4.

Personally, i disagree with this. The kentucky series was pretty horrific IMHO. The turning point for me has to be the bama series. If we start there, we finished SEC play with an 11-1 record. This is also the point where we started getting really consistent hitting from the bottom of our lineup (pap) and we starting getting quality starts from all three weekend starters. (Remember how shaky poche was in the middle of the season?)

What are your thoughts?

There was no "turning point." We were never so far out of things that we didn't have a chance to win the West.

3 sec sweeps, 2 on the road? that is the very definition of a run.

Kramer Robertson's pep talk. And sometimes that's all it takes.

It was when Tiger fans called CPM = CLM and CPM is out to prove that he's not LM.

After the kentucky series, we were sitting 7th in overall sec standings. Not to mention, we were still underachieving at that point and certainly didnt look like one of the better teams in the conference

I agree with the Bama series. Arkansas felt like one at the time because of the similarities to the Rally Possum game last year, when it actually was the turning point, but two weeks later we had a 1-3 stretch against UK and Tulane. Bama may be terrible this year, but you can't argue with an 11-1 SEC finish.

Personally i think it was after the midweek when pap started being more patient at the plate and hess became a force, sometime around the start of the bama series.they grind ed out games until the auburn series. Then rught after we lost to s alabama, we have hit a new gear. The hot streak....that may wear off in the next couple weeks

We caught UF and Kentucky at bad times.

We played Bama, Auburn, and Miss St at the perfect time.

Most Talent doesn't always win but it's the most important factor in sports. Florida and LSU are the 2 most talented teams in the SEC and even though they both started slow they finished at the top.

Baseball is a long season and the breaks start to even out and talent comes through

Lots of good points in most posts. But I do think it is the fact that LSU has more talent, along with Florida.

I would add the experience factor. Several position players, two of the three starters and the closer's experience, certainly helped.

Seemed like it all started after the pussy Tulane loss,LSU went up to Bama and swept them as well as 2 of the next 3 sec opponents. Lost to S. Alabama though.

Maybe not the turning point, but what was the beginning of the hot streak was the walk off rubber match with south Carolina.

Walk off against South Carolina on Sunday in the 3rd to last SEC series much like the go-ahead homerun by Matt Clark in the 9th on Sunday against Kentucky in 2008 in the 3rd to last SEC series.

Plenty of parallels between the 2008 team and this one. LSU is a confusing midweek loss against South Alabama and a blown game against South Carolina away from being on the exact same streak as 2008 was at this point.

I kind of wish the midweek teams we lost to this year come to Alex box and face Lange, Poche and Walker

I don't think there was a turning point. I think they played about the same all year. They had some things go against them during the first 2 months of the season. They had some things go their way during the last month. That's baseball. I know a lot of people don't want to hear that. A lot of people want to believe that wins=good play and losses=bad play but it just isn't always that easy in baseball.

Even individually, I think most of the players were relatively consistent throughout the year. On offense, the emergence of Coomes helped a little but it's not like he was so good that it made that much of an impact. The rest of the offense was pretty much the same all year. We starting getting more hits with runners on base during the last month but I don't think that's really a skill as much as it is luck.

The improvement Hess made throughout the year did play a factor. He is a dominant force right now. He wasn't that earlier in the year.

Really though, this team is as good as Alex Lange pitches. When he pitches his best, they are a national title contender. When he doesn't pitch well, they aren't much better than average. He has pitched his best over the past 4 weeks. He has to do it for the rest of the season for this team to win it all. They have no chance if he doesn't.
