Dawson will do the same — just in college. He was expected to compete with Piatnik and a handful of current LSU players for the job to replace Bregman.

why trash a recruit that can go chase his MLB dream that will never play for you

“He’ll have every opportunity to win the job. We recruited him because we thought he was good. We have big hopes, big expectations for him,” Mainieri said. “For some players, they don’t want to follow Bregman. I don’t know if that was part of Piatnik’s motivation or not. I know Dawson’s not afraid. I can tell you that.”

Lighten up Francis, he's not trashing anyone in that statement. Its a fact a lot of people don't want to be the guy who follows someone great. It's not a criticism, he's also talking up Dawson.

It's more pro-Dawson than anything. Chill. Why make a thread like this trying to bash on the coach when we just got to Omaha? Geez our fans.

He is, but that wasnt really even being candid. You gotta be looking for something to hate PM on if you picked that quote out to bitch about.

What PM said...
quote:

“For some players, they don’t want to follow Bregman. I don’t know if that was part of Piatnik’s motivation or not. I know Dawson’s not afraid. I can tell you that.”

What he could/should have said....

“For some players, they don’t want to follow Bregman. I know Dawson’s not afraid. I can tell you that.”

CPM has a history of making such comments. Honestly I believe it's just part of his makeup and not designed to be hurtful. The things he said about Cody Glen in the paper at the end of last season shocked me but it is what it is.

it's like y'all are trying to find something to be pissed off about.

y'all are the sports version of SJWs screaming #rapeculture over some Taco Bell hot sauce packets

I can see that being an answer if he was asked, "Do you think that following Bregman was a factor for [x] to go into the draft?"

Sounds like a case where Piatnik told Mainieri he would be coming in then took the money instead; enter Mainieri taking his Les Miles "no chest" shot. I have no problem with it. If you want to play the coaches they have every right to call you out. Mainieri gets really pissed off when he gets played, and he lets everyone know it...some people are just that way.

people would still manipulate his words into being a pot shot at Piatnik

Do we even know the context of the question?

Maybe the reporter mentioned Piatnik when asking about following Bregman.
