Kat was a three at landfall. But this accomplishes nothing. Nothing. Right now we are looking at a Tuesday landfall. Evacuations can proceed without Contraflow. In fact, given the present facts, anyone evacuating the coastal parishes would do well to go north and east. Opening contraflow 48 hours before landfall is plenty.

Looks like a hurricane to me!

I'm still coming to the game, just worried about getting back to Lafayette Sunday considering contraflow if I spend the night. (yes I know Lafayette is the landfall target as of right now but I won't flood, I promise). Get drunk tonight!

Why open contraflow on I-10 West if you don't know where it is going? You can be leading people directly into the storm. If you use contraflow, use it on I-55 and I-59. Pretty sure that is a better way to go than heading towards Lake Charles.

Wednesday? It's set to make landfall early Tuesday morning and I'm sure the outerbands will be hitting us by Monday evening...

Call me jaded, but I think this is less about the safety of the fine citizenry of Louisiana than about the political careers of Jindal et al.

They can't appear to be passive.

Exactly. I'm jaded as well. Are you going to stick a gun in someone's face or drag them out of their home and force them to get on a bus? There will still be idiots that refuse to leave New Orleans. I say if they choose to not leave, frick'EM.

Stupid over-reaction, this thing isn't going to be a 400 mile wide bitch like Katrina.

The idiocy of the last 3 posters make me glad I voted for Jindal and even gladder that they themselves did not run for governor.

Your idiocy of wanting to send people in to risk their lives for people that refuse to leave makes me glad you have no power as well.

I don't care about that...I'm talking about the concept of evacuating people midday Saturday. Some people can't seem to get it through their head that that is NOT too early.

If you don't think that political expendiency and perception are a driving factor in this planning process, you are extraordinarily naive.

It's a freaking football game!!!!! The people making decisions are concerned more with the lives of hundreds of thousands of people they are charged with protecting. They could give a rats arse about a stupid freaking football game!

Jindal is not doing the popular thing at the moment by moving this football game...he IS doing the prudent and necessary thing.

Damm Louisiana wimps; the French in you must be coming out. Face this Hurricane like men and play the game, or better yet just send it over here to Florida and we'll take on Gustav and Hanna at the same time! We buffer ya'll from most of the Tropical Storms and Hurricanes anyway. Bring 'em on!!
